Shock and awww!

Seems to me the White House is imploding — in an upsetting, but riveting way that many expected…but most hoped would not happen!

What is my take away?

When it comes to the presidency: experience, experience, experience. The Swamp is beginning to look like a rather acceptable habitat! Of course I was not one of those asking for “no experience” because I certainly prefer (good) experience in my professionals.

experience

Would I choose a doctor with NO experience who has no-one with experience helping him diagnose? Nope. Would you?

Choose a lawyer with no experience to get me out of a murder rap? Nope. Given a choice, I want someone who has already been there, done that. Bring Johnny Cochrane back from the dead and I’ll take him over a living attorney!

Choose the pilot who just graduated to take me through a water landing? Don’t think so. I want Captain Sully…(Chesley Sullenberger who made an emergency landing on New York’s Hudson River/2009).

captain-sully

Yes, inexperienced people are capable of doing a great job, maybe even better than the old hands (who were once inexperienced themselves)…but it’s iffy. We still want to choose the experienced professionals…because they’re gone through the fire. Been tested. Good governor…OK, maybe you’ll be a good president too. Good senator, congresswoman, mayor…OK. let’s try you.

But choosing a President? Nah, we don’t need political experience. O-kaaay…!

Just because you’re a good businessman — that does not a good president make, especially when your business is run by your family with no public scrutiny…and no other people to answer to, when you and your family make all the decisions with no outside persons saying: Now wait just a minute!

(By the way, I don’t believe Donald Trump was the person who was really running the Trump empire. I think it may be his daughter Ivanka and the two sons running the companies…and Trump is just the figurehead brand. Of course I may be wrong, but I believe when he tried to run the company, he bankrupted it, ran it into the ground.)

the-wiz

Where is the seasoned businessman, with the savvy, the corporate know-how and Midas touch? Are we looking at a Wizard of Oz scenario?

We gas tank almost empty,  No electricity, we oil pressure reading low
Shall we abandon ship, Or shall we stay on it and perish slow
We don’t know, we don’t know, Captain you tell we what to do

I also think the reason some lawmakers are so opposed to Trump may be because they get intelligence briefings and know things we don’t know – things they cannot tell the public.

What are foreign leaders thinking. Read between the lines. Here’s what some have told Mr. Trump or his Vice President:

Canada’s Justin Trudeau:

trudeau-trump

Any day I get to visit our southern neighbors is a good day in my book…

Of course.

And any day Trudeau’s counterpart, the American President, gets to visit HIS southern neighbor, Mexico? Oh wait – didn’t happen…because we challenged them and they pushed back – and now Mexicans are demonstrating in the streets against America and putting up resistance.

Trudeau: History has demonstrated time and again that in order to tackle our most pressing issues, both foreign and domestic, we must work with our closest allies, learn from each other, and stand in solidarity as a united voice.

With a level of economic and social integration that is unmatched on the world stage, Canada and the United States will forever be a model example of how to be good neighbors.  Winston Churchill once said, “That long Canadian frontier from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans, guarded only by neighborly respect and honorable obligations, is an example to every country, and a pattern for the future of the world.”

The U.S and Mexico, on the other hand, will forever be what kind of model? Will the U.S.’s equally long frontier with Mexico be: guarded only by neighborly respect and honorable obligations…(as) an example to every country, and a pattern for the future of the world. Guess we’ll see!

The annual weekend gathering is known for providing an open and informal platform to meet in close quarters. (AP Photo/Matthias Schrader)

Germany’s Angela Merkel (on free press) with Vice President Mike Pence in the audience:

“I stand by a free and independent press and have great respect for journalists … We’ve always done well in Germany when we mutually respect each other.

…If there are differences of opinion, then we discuss it, but we accept press freedom as a great pillar of democracy.”

Britain’s Theresa May:

“When it comes to Russia, as so often it is wise to turn to the example of President Reagan who, during his negotiations with his opposite number Mikhail Gorbachev, used to abide by the adage trust but verify. With President Putin, my advice is to: engage but beware.”

trump-may

Mayday! Mayday! We hear all of you. Is president Trump listening, though?

Captain, this ship is sinking…Captain, the seas are rough…we gas tank almost empty, no electricity, we oil pressure reading low…shall we abandon ship, or shall we stay on it and perish slow…we don’t know, we don’t know…Captain you tell we what to do.

CONDOLEEZZA RICE and the missed REPUBLICAN Opportunity.

Since our two-party system makes provision for a Republican to also run in the race for President of America, shouldn’t that Republican BE Condoleezza Rice?

Condi versus Obama.

Former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice addresses the 2012 Republican National Convention.

The Republicans don’t KNOW a good thing when they have it – the black male “rock star” president vs. the black female “rock star” former Secretary of State! And NOT just any female either, this is a woman who comes from the face of segregated America: Birmingham, Alabama.

Republicans should have gone in droves to Condoleezza Rice and begged, threatened, cajoled, seduced, threatened — maybe even sent former Vice President Dick Cheney to FORCE Rice to be their nominee. They could have with one GO broken the perception that they are racist, dismissed the notion that the reason so many of them hate Obama is because he is black and just sucked in the female vote. Va-va-vroom…

But NO. They had to go with the anti-Condoleezza. Pass on spicy for bland…

Former Secretary of State, Colin Powell who served BEFORE Rice.

Can you envision a debate between Barak Obama and Condoleezza Rice? WHO would NOT watch? The WORLD would watch…

Republicans could have bagged Colin Powell. But NO. Condi and Powell DO NOT SIT WELL WITH the racist Tea Party arm now controlling the Republican Party.

Let us look at Condoleezza Rice’s speech to the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa/Florida August 29. All you’re getting is Ryan’s FLUFF shoved down your throat!

Rice starts by saying:

“We gather here at a time of significance and challenge. This young century has been a difficult one…

(She refers to 9-11 then adds) “From that day on…our sense of vulnerability and our concepts of security were never the same again.

Then, in 2008, the global financial and economic crisis would stun us. And it still reverberates as we deal with unemployment and economic uncertainty and bad policies that cast a pall over an American economy and a recovery that is
desperately needed at home and abroad.

Economy crashes – 2008, SAME year Obama takes office. It’s HIS fault.

(She goes on to refer to developments in the Middle East and what America should do about Syria and Iran) “Russia and China prevent a response, and everyone asks, where does America stand?”

So far I agree with everything she’s said.

America’s sense of vulnerability and our concepts of security will NEVER be the same again.

  • The financial crisis did NOT stun me because anyone with an ounce of sense could foresee this coming. Some people were warning and urging caution.
  • YES! We are still reverberating from the massive job losses and economic uncertainty that started under Republican rule with former President George W. Bush’s wars and tax cuts…and other bad policies. These policies cast a pall over America’s economy and the recovery that is desperately needed at home and abroad.
  • And yes. Russia and China are blocking American intervention.

Condi says the world is asking: “Where does America stand? Since world war II, the United States has had an answer to that question.  We stand for free peoples and free markets. We will defend and support them. We will sustain a balance of power that favors freedom.

She goes on to make the case for INTERVENTIONISM – praising the soldiers who put their lives on the line to secure American Freedom and then goes on to say the question of the hour is:

  • “Where does America stand?  You see when the friends or foes alike don’t know the answer to that question, unambiguously and clearly, the world is likely to be a more dangerous and chaotic place.” There is no choice, because one of two things will happen if we don’t lead. Either no one will lead and there will be chaos, or someone will fill the vacuum who does not share our values.

I don’t agree with her there on her method. Rice subscribes to the Bush Doctrine of Preemptive strikes (the one Sarah Palin had never heard of). Rice, (like Bush, Cheney, Bush’s Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his deputy Paul Wolfowitz and many Republicans) believe that wherever around the world some dictator rattles his sabers, especially against “Freedom”, America should pull out her big guns and go bang, bang!

BUT, IF the rattling is coming from a huge powerhouse like China or Russia – THEN obviously we CAN’T invade THEM, so what do we do then?

NOW there is a FUNDAMENTAL question that Americans need to answer: HOW do you deal with Russia and China?

Chinese troops. How should America treat China?

Romney and Ryan say THEY will haul China before the World Trade Organization. I’m sure that will work on so many levels. Because if you earn $200-thousand-a year, then borrow 20 million dollars from your neighbor and he’s holding your house and your cars as collateral, then of course the one thing you want to do is sue your neighbor.

Would you try to talk to him, bring him cookies, offer to watch his kids, kiss his (you know) unobtrusively of course, ’cause he’s got you over a barrel? A barrel YOU allowed HIM to put you over with your run-away conspicuous consumption which you could NOT afford? If you’re a Democrat you play nice. You hate to kiss his (you know) but  you’re smart and you like your nice, big house and fancy car.

If you’re a Republican, you being the MACHO moron that you are, you tell your neighbor, the one holding your loan – “Go —- yourself!” And then sit at home and smirk as you imagine him renegotiating a new loan for you with a lower interest rate. That’s what Republicans expect. That they will step on your toes and you will be so grateful, you will still love them, because they are, well, Republicans! These people have NO concept of ACTION – REACTION. OF ACTION – CONSEQUENCE. (Naturally, they blame the consequences on someone else!)

Renewable Energy sources

Back to Rice:

  • We must work for an open, global economy, and pursue free and fair trade, to grow our exports and our influence abroad.  If you are worried about the rise of China, just consider this — the United States has…ratified only three trade agreements in the last few years, and those were negotiated in the Bush administration. China has signed 15 free trade agreements and is in the progress of negotiating as many as 18 more.  Sadly, we are abandoning the field of free and fair trade and it will come back to haunt us. AGREE
  • We must not allow the chance to attain energy independence to slip from our grasp.  We are blessed with a gift of oil and gas resources here in North America, and we must develop them. We can develop them sensitively, we can develop them securing our environment, but we must develop them. And we have the ingenuity to develop alternatives sources of energy.  AGREE

(Rice says  Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will rebuild the foundation of our strength, the American economy — stimulating private sector growth and stimulating small business entrepreneurship…BALONEY!)

  • When the world looks at us today, they see an American government that cannot live within its means.  They see an American government that continues to borrow money, that will mortgage the future of generations to come.  The world knows that when a nation loses control of its finances, it eventually loses control of its destiny. That is not the America that has inspired people to follow our lead. AGREE.

Now we see here WHAT substance IS! Yes she’s got her ideology – and I don’t always agree. But by gosh she’s  got some foundations in her speech that BOTH parties can use as STARTING POINTS to a productive dialog – ASSUMING they want to?

According to Rice:

  • You see, the essence of America, what really unites us, is not nationality or ethnicity or religion.  It is an idea.  And what an idea it is.  That you can come from humble circumstances and you can do great things, that it does not matter where you came from, it matters where you are going. SO TRUE!
  • My fellow Americans, ours has never been a narrative of grievance and entitlement.  We have never believed that I am doing poorly because you are doing well.  We have never been jealous of one another and never envious of each others’ successes. SO TRUE!

Republicans applauded here – because they’ve bought into the silly dialog that Romney and the other Republicans put forward to mask their questionable financial practices – the one that says those of us who question the Romney’s finances do so because we are envious. I can’t speak for everybody, there may be some who envy the Romney’s for their lifestyle. But I’m not envious. Just practice what you preach.

But Rice could also be saying: Stop your silly mouthing that criticism of financial wrongdoing is “envy” because until you came up with that nonsense “ours has never been a narrative of grievance and entitlement.  We have never believed that I am doing poorly because you are doing well.  We have never been jealous of one another and never envious of each others’ successes.”

  •  No…ours has been a belief in opportunity.  And it has been a constant struggle, long and hard, up and down, to try to extend the benefits of the American dream to all.  But that American ideal is indeed in danger today.  There is no country, no, not even a rising China that can do more harm to us than we can do to ourselves if we do not do the hard work before us here at home. AGAIN – SO TRUE!

Children of Illegal Immigrants line up for Temporary Legal Status under President Obama’s “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” effective August 15, 2012.

On Immigration Reform:

  • More than at any other time in history, greatness is built on mobilizing human potential and ambition…People have come here from all over because they have believed our creed of opportunity and limitless horizons. They have come here from the world’s most impoverished nations just to make a decent wage.  And they have come here from advanced societies as engineers and scientists that fuel the knowledge-based revolution in the Silicon Valley of California, in the Research Triangle of North Carolina, along Route 128 in Massachusetts, in Austin, Texas, and across this great land.
  • We must continue to welcome the world’s most ambitious people to be a part of us.  In that way, we stay young and optimistic and determined.  We need immigration laws that protect our borders, meet our economic needs, and yet show that we are a compassionate nation of immigrants.
  •  We have been successful too because Americans have known that one’s status of birth is not a permanent condition. Americans have believed that you might not be able to control your circumstances but you can control your response to your circumstances.

STOP. RUN THAT BY ME AGAIN!!!???

  • Americans have believed that you might not be able to control your circumstances but you can control your RESPONSE to your circumstances.

Oh Condoleezza – I love you. You get it. You really, really do! (Paul Ryan would follow Rice on the podium and shoot down everything Rice says here – but we know that Ryan, like Romney, do NOT GET it. )

  •  And your greatest ally in controlling your response to your circumstances has been a quality education.  But today, today, when I can look at your zip code and I can tell whether you’re going to get a good education, can I honestly say it does not matter where you came from, it matters where you are going?  The crisis in K-12 education is a threat to the very fabric of who we are.
  •  My mom was a teacher.  I respect the profession.  We need great teachers, not poor ones and not mediocre ones.  We have to have high standards for our kids, because self-esteem comes from achievement, not from lax standards and false praise. And we need to give parents greater choice, particularly, particularly poor parents whose kids, very often minorities, are trapped in failing neighborhood schools.  This is the civil rights issue of our day.

RUN THAT ONE BY ME AGAIN, TOO!

  • “We need to give parents greater choice, particularly, particularly poor parents whose kids, very often minorities, are trapped in failing neighborhood schools.  This is the civil rights issue of our day.”

Here’s the TALENT the Republicans have at their fingertips…and see whom (or is it WHAT?) they nominated! And YOU tell ME how STUPID this party is!!!

Police use dogs against civil rights demonstrators in Birmingham, Alabama – 1963

And so here is the story. The HUMANISING story we cannot manufacture to seduce voters.

  • On a personal note, a little girl grows up in Jim Crow Birmingham. The segregated city of the south where her parents cannot take her to a movie theater or to restaurants, but they have convinced that even if she cannot have it hamburger at Woolworths, she can be the president of the United States if she wanted to be, and she becomes the secretary of state.

Then Tea party Boy Dahling Paul Ryan comes on…and he plays to the Party Base, spouts the juvenile nonsense you expect from HIM. I’m looking at Ryan, seeing a pretty…a very pretty empty face. Yes, he is quite good looking.

Ryan says:

  • “Obama Care comes to more than 2,000 pages of rules, mandates, taxes, fees and fines that have no place in a free country.” HUH? What has No place in a free country? Pages? Rules? Mandates – like the one Mitt Romney slapped on us here in Massachusetts for ROMNEYCARE, our state healthcare for all? Taxes? As in the Supreme Court has decided to call that MANDATE a TAX? Fees and Fines like the ones Romney RAISED on us here in Massachusetts?

According to FactCheck.orgThe Massachusetts Department of Administration and Finance put the fee total at $260 million a year and the corporate tax change at $174 million a year, and the independent Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation said both fees and taxes totaled $740 million to $750 million a year (split about evenly between fees and corporate taxes).  But Romney CAN SAY HE DID NOT RAISE TAXES…because being Romney, he came up with a devious, UNDERHAND creative accounting way to do so!

  • College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life.

Representative Paul Ryan (Wisconsin), chair of the House Budget Committee and Mitt Romney’s running mate.

NO Mr. Ryan, college grads should NOT have to live back home in their childhood bedrooms if you and your Republican buddies had supported the Student Loan Reform bill.

New York Times headline: MAY 17, 2012, 5:33 AM

Republicans in Senate Block Bill on Student Loan Rates

WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked consideration of a Democratic bill to prevent the doubling of some student loan interest rates, leaving the legislation in limbo less than two months before rates on subsidized federal loans are set to shoot upward.

Democrats arrayed college students to plead for a yes vote. The bill was blocked on party lines.

Along party lines, the Senate voted 52 to 45 on a key procedural motion, failing to reach the 60 votes needed to begin debating the measure.

The vote was the Senate Republicans’ 21st successful filibuster of a Democratic bill this Congress, which started in January 2011. Republicans have blocked consideration of President Obama’s full jobs proposal, as well as legislation repealing tax breaks for oil companies, helping local governments pay teachers and first responders, and setting a minimum tax rate for households earning more than $1 million a year.

Republicans say the measures were flawed and potentially harmful to the economic recovery.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/09/us/politics/senate-republicans-block-bill-on-student-loan-rates.html

ANOTHER ARTICLE…

In an awkward move Wednesday, Senate Republicans voted overwhelmingly for two GOP-written budgets that would each let student loan interest rates spike in July, even as they insist they want to avert such an outcome.

Budget measures by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) (NOTE WHOM) and Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) went down 41-58 and 42-57, respectively. Both let Stafford loan rates double from 3.4 to 6.8 percent, which President Obama and Democrats have been pushing to prevent. Mitt Romney and GOP leaders say they want to extend the existing rate but differ on how to pay for it. (SEE THE hypocrisy?)

The budget votes were largely a Republican effort to embarrass President Obama and Democrats for failing to coalesce around a long-term fiscal vision.

Then Ryan deals his coup de grace.  He discounts the very point that Rice made – that some people are locked into their lot.

  • Listen to the way we’re already spoken to already, as if everyone is stuck in some class or station in life, victims of circumstances beyond our control, with government there to help us cope with our fate…

HE cannot get the point that Rice makes…that one might not be able to control one’s circumstances but yes, one can control one’s response to one’s circumstances.

Mr. Ryan if you’re at the bottom of a well, which would you prefer? For a fireman to come and throw you a rope — or look down at you, laugh and say: Dig yourself out. Even with broken fingernails!  Sure a determined person CAN dig him/herself out, but it’s a lot easier with that rope – or a spoon – or a shovel!

Remember HIM?

Ryan says leadership is missing from the White House – like there was an overflow of LEADERSHIP when George W. Bush was in the White House. Unless of course we factor in Bush’s egomaniacal Vice President Dick Cheney, who lived up to his name by leading Bush around by his…well, YOU know, Dick.

Maybe I’m biased…but so far, I am with Condi.

My Dream is that: “One day…one day, politicians will speak the truth. That this nation will rise up and demand capable leaders, men and women of integrity, black, white, Hispanic, Asian and Amerindian.

I have a dream that one day, a politician’s worth will no longer be determined by how much money he can raise and spend, but by the sum of his ideas, by his or her competence and not by his/her debating ability.

I have a dream that one day politicians will be chosen, not by the color of their skin or party, but by the inclusiveness of their vision.

Yes, I have a dream that one day, on these white steps of the Capitol, we will see a Republican and a Democrat stand side by side at a table of National Interest and Unity and shout: Free at last, Free at last. Thank God – we are free at last from partisan bickering!”

No Room At The Inn…for Gaddafi!

We are coming across as such an angry nation…populated with petulant, uncivil people.

We look at demonstrators in other places burning flags and chanting anti-American slogans, and we don’t even understand WHY. Perhaps we don’t need to, because NOW, we’re beginning to act just like them.

Democracy means you don’t need to agree with or like a person to ensure that that person’s rights are upheld. It’s hard. But that’s the strength of Democracy!

Two heads of state, who are here to attend the U.N. General Assembly meeting, are being denied a place to stay or hold their events.

These two leaders are our guests. This is where the U.N. building is. If you don’t want them to come here, throw the U.N. Headquarters out of America – or arrange to change those leaders!

Until then, whenever they come to the U.N. where they have a right to be by agreement, they need to be treated as guests. They are heads of state…even though you may NOT like their head…or their state!

How would we/you feel if our leaders go overseas and can’t find a place to stay – or hold an event? Come on America, I expect better from you.

Should these countries change their leaders just because WE don’t like them?

Yes, you can protest when they come to town. That’s your right. But come on!

What did you achieve? You vented and you felt good – now what? You just dissed and angered millions of people who support and love their leaders, whether you think they’re vile or not!

Wouldn’t it have been better to treat them with civility and show the world that Americans are different, forgiving, respectful, nice…?

Did we not marvel at the Amish after than horrific shooting in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County (2006)? That community lost five kids, but they embraced the family of the shooter.

That was big news – to us – because we would NOT have been so forgiving. Being the good Christians we are, we’d have been out there agitating to get the family thrown out of their home and probably lynched, too! The Amish lesson did not last long!

We embrace anger and vengence. We must always be reading testimonials in court about our grief and anger over the murder of a loved one. We must call the murderer a thug, an animal, a monster who should rot in jail or hell…

And we are supposed to be so religious, such a Jesus-loving nation! But we don’t act religious, unless we’re ranting against abortion or gays! That’s where our religion comes in!

Leaders who come here to the U.N. can at least get a place to stay and somewhere to meet up with their friends. That is courtesy, America. It’s not love.

Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi thought he could stay at The Pierre Hotel on Fifth Avenue, but it had a change of heart when other guests paying large amounts for their rooms apparently didn’t want him there.

Iranian President President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad found a hotel to stay.

But two New York events halls rejected the Iranian U.N. delegation’s reservations for a hall to hold a banquet for Ahmadinejad on Friday (Sept. 25, 2009). The Helmsley Hotel and Gotham Hall also turned down the Iranians, saying the venue refused to be a platform for propaganda.

Could they not come up with a better reason, at least? Propaganda? If they’re anti-propaganda, there’s a whole host of companies they should not deal with, including some that run unauthorized tests on poor children overseas!

However, the Iranians did find a venue to hold their banquet at Essex House Hotel. But the hotel came under intense pressure to cancel the reservation…and they did!

Former Ambassador Mark Wallace (coached Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin for interviews and debates) heads the organization United Against Nuclear Iran. He’s spearheading U.S. boycott efforts against Iran and wants Essex House to cancel the event.

Wallace wrote to the general manager of the Essex House, calling on them to: clarify and reconsider its decision to host the banquet and address and instead decline to provide such a venue for President Ahmadinejad

By doing business with the Iranian government the Essex House is accepting blood money from a regime that brutally suppresses its own people and that is a danger to global security”.

Really? Iran is a danger to global security. Unlike Say Russia or China, neither of which suppresses its people…or has an army…or nuclear weapons!? You really think Iran is more of a threat to the U.S. than Russia?

Will you be out there demanding that Putin or Russian President Dmitry Medvedev be thrown out of Camp David? Did you see him sitting next to President Obama…smiling…at us? We are such fools!

(By the way, who got together and decided that only some nations can have nuclear weapons, but others can’t?)

Shouldn’t we simply be making sure that our weapons work, so that if anybody was foolish enough to try something we’d annihilate them?

Wouldn’t the world be a better place if most countries just minded their own business?

We’ve been in bed with many thugs in Haiti, Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia. We’ve traded, colluded and raises our glasses with leaders who were dictators and murderers…because it suited us!

In our backyard, Rafael Trujillo, Dominican Republic. His tyranny is considered one of the bloodiest of the 20th century. He attacked the Haitian border and killed (an estimated 20-30 thousand) fleeing Haitians. But he was anti-communist and anti-Castro, so we looked the other way.

Haiti, not to be outdone, came up with François “Papa Doc” Duvalier – the one who made himself President for Life. Duvalier had his own private militia known as Tonton Macoutes.

it’s estimated that he, too, killed some 30-thousand Haitians. They braved the Atlantic in rickety boats to escape Tyranny. But Duvalier, too, was anti-communist and anti-Castro, so we looked the other way.

You get the picture – I don’t need to talk about Saddam Hussein or the Congo’s Mobutu Sésé Seko…and the many others!

I guess there was no reason to protest because these dictators were killing their people…and other groups they did not like – they were NOT killing Americans.

I’m NOT blaming America, though. Countries do what countries need to do. I just want us to understand that this also applies to other nations too!

This world will never have peace…long as us humans live in it! Or at least, long as we continue with our hypocrisy – on race, on trade, on politics, on sex, on everything!

Tactics, Economy and The Bible.

John McCain has been running for president for ten years. Ten years! But it’s only now, three weeks before the election that McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin seem to have finally realized what’s been preying on the minds of most Americans, lately. The Economy.

People are worried and scared about the uncertain economic outlook, high energy prices and job losses…not a college professor on a board that Obama sat on.  The McCain campaign probably thought, until now, that Americans were just whining, (as McCain’s top advisor, Phil Gramm, put it) and any talk of economic pain was all in people’s heads!

For months, republicans have been feeding their base a steady diet of anti-Obama sentiment. He’s a terrorist, he palls around with terrorists, he’s a Muslim…he’s an Arab! They rally supporters at gatherings by referring to Obama as “Barak Hussein Obama”.

Republicans also use their talk-show surrogates to spread gossip, rumor and innuendo—then sit back and sanctimoniously and disingenuously point out that the talk show host has himself denounced the rumors. HE wasn’t the one making the claims…it was his guest! Apparently the way to distance yourself and your party from spurious claims is to give your guest a platform to spew the very claims you so solemnly denounce!

Still, McCain and Palin took their hateful anti-Obama rhetoric across America, and used it to whip up their supporters. I watched McCain on T-V having to defend Obama. It was humiliating! He had to tell the same supporters he just whipped into an anti-Obama frenzy that:  “Obama is not a bad man, after all. I just disagree with him”. Huh?  Who is/was lying, here?

Having made their supporters hate and distrust Obama by rumor, innuendo and calculated attacks, McCain and Palin are now trying to raise anchor and just sail on, as though their vitriolic spewing never happened. They’re now re-repositioning themselves as America’s economic saviors.

After a near two-year campaign, you’d think that McCain would have refined and honed his message by now. But he’s still running with the moment, reacting and shooting from the hip.

Do you want a trigger-happy commander fingering the nation’s nuclear codes?

Mr. President, the Russians just fired a nuclear missile at Georgia. John McCain immediately launches a nuclear bomb at Moscow. A few seconds later, information comes in—it was just a test. There’s been no attack. Oops! Too late. Shoot from the hip McCain has already started a nuclear war! And vice president Palin is calling friends to tell them the mushroom cloud can be seen from her house!

It is too late now for McCain to tell Americans that his temperament has taken a sudden shift for the better. That he’s now cool, calm and level-headed, and has shed the trademark sarcasm and irascible demeanor we’ve seen time after time on the campaign trail. This is a man that even his good friends admit has a hell of a temper, which easily bursts out of control.

I sometime wonder if republicans are out of touch with the God they claim to believe in so much. They wrap themselves up in the bible—when it suits them. That’s called hypocrisy! The one that says my vice presidential nominee’s daughter can get pregnant at 17, and that’s OK. I will embrace her, love, defend and support her. But to every other non-Palin pregnant teen out there, the republican message is: you are sluts, with no family values, and you’re going straight to hell!

Seems to me, Satan had better think about expanding.

The Bible says: <strong>Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?” And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness</strong>.” Matthew 7:21-23.

Sarah Palin had her first major news interview with CBS’s Katie Couric, on Thursday (September 25). (CBS interview/transcripts online, on their website CBS Evening News

Couric: You’ve cited Alaska’s proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

Sarah Palin: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our other side, the land-boundary that we have with Canada. It’s funny that a comment like that was kinda made to … I don’t know, you know … reporters.

Couric: Mocked?

Palin: Yeah, mocked, I guess that’s the word, yeah.

Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.

Palin: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. And there…

Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It’s very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there, they are right next to our state.

O-K…

I would like to talk with Mitt Romney. And Bobby Jindal. On second thought, I’d better not. That would be sexist. The two of them were not McCain’s vice presidential pick because their states — Romney, Massachusetts (apparently Michigan would have been better, even Utah) and Jindal, Louisiana — are too far from Russia. And I doubt the leader of Pakistan would call either of them ”even more gorgeous” than he’d expected! So there. I think Senator McCain made a wise choice. I can already see Palin putting Biden in his place (what does HE know about foreign policy, anyway?) at the upcoming debates. Biden should really start studying. Now! One mistake and Putin could come charging across Alaska’s very narrow maritime border!
