Charlie BAKER 2.0

Charlie BakerRepublican Charlie Baker is looking for an APP that will make him MORE palatable as Governor of Massachusetts this time around.

Baker who ran in 2010 against incumbent/current governor and President Obama pal Deval Patrick (Democrat) in 2010, is planning Baker 2-point-0…the upgrade!

I wonder if Curt Schilling will campaign for Charlie Baker this time around…or whether Baker will consider Schilling, again, as his running mate?

In case you’ve forgotten, Curt Schilling is the former Boston Red Sox pitcher (baseball) who:

  • Is King – was King? of bloody socks (at least, here in Boston).
  • Championed Republican Baker against current governor Patrick, who took office in 2007: “I’ll vote for him (Baker) because he’s someone that has always appealed to me as being out for the greater good above all else. This state is in dire need of exactly that right now…”
  • Later wanted the state (Massachusetts, under Governor Deval Patrick) to give him, Schilling, millions in loan guarantees/state subsidies for his Gaming startup company, 38 Studios.
  • When Patrick said no (what did Schilling expect? You campaigned for his rival – and Microsoft you are not!)

Curt Schilling

  • Schilling threw a tantrum. He flounced over to Rhode Island where Schilling got the $75 million in loan guarantees he wanted – then in 2012 defaulted on a million-dollar payment and declared bankruptcy, leaving RI holding the bag. RI is suing!

Yes – that Curt Schilling.

So what role is HE likely to play in Charlie Baker’s second run for governor, Baker 2.0? I say 38 NADAs!

Because back then, when Schilling was campaigning for those government hand-outs from Massachusetts and Patrick turned him down…

Said Baker:

“Over the course of the past four years, Massachusetts has lost a lot of businesses…we can’t blame that on businesses that make decisions to do what makes the most sense for their employees.”


Rick Gorka, a spokesman for the Baker campaign, called Schilling’s departure:

An example of a “toxic business climate’’ created by Democratic incumbent Governor Deval Patrick. 

So given the debacle that Schilling’s 38 Studios turned out to be, how will Baker justify his campaign getting it so wrong…???

How does Baker parlay that into a bid for faith in his ability to make SOUND business decisions for the Bay State?

For surely IF Baker (thank God) had been governor – HE would have given his buddy/campaign torch bearer the tax-payer dollars Schilling was asking for – and TODAY, it would be Massachusetts TAX PAYERS left holding that bankrupt bag!

According to news reports, angry RI lawmakers were left asking:

Why Rhode Island backed an untested company helmed by a wealthy former athlete when the state grapples with an 11.2 percent jobless rate and chronic budget deficits.



Incidentally the very SAME day that Baker announced that he’s running for governor (09/4/13)…the governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee announced  HE will NOT run for another term.

Chafee refused to give Schilling’s 38 Studios yet MORE subsidies to bail the company, (as Schilling was demanding). Chafee called the 38 Studios deal:  a very, very challenging investment by the state.

So what does that say about Charlie Baker?

Because if HE had been governor of Massachusetts, WE would be looking at the 38 Studios debacle and drumming him out of town!

38 Studios created such a MESS  for/in RI, that I can’t figure it out.

  • The state issued $75-million in bonds backed by RI taxpayers. Not just any bonds, moral obligation bonds that they apparently can’t default on, maybe. RI owes the bond holders $110 million!
  • The state is suing 14 people involved with the 38 Studios deal, including Curt Schilling.
  • Erosion of confidence in the RI Economic Development Corporation – every deal is now suspect!

Welcome 38 Studios! What a mess THAT turned out to be…Charlie Baker.

Now here comes Baker 2.0!  More like “Oh NO! Not again?!”

This is ONE time you do NOT upgrade…

Reminder (taken from an online news article about 38 Studios):

  • “In April, the Boston Business Journal reported that new court filings alleged 38 Studios knew it was in dire straits before it moved from Massachusetts to the Ocean State. According to documents filed in Rhode Island Superior Court, Rhode Island Economic Development Corp. attorney Max Wistow said there was “crushing evidence” that shows that Schilling and others at the company covered up financial information”.

Rhode Island was left to find a multi-year plan to start paying down the debt.


Goodbye 38 Studios. Didn’t come back – and neither should Charlie Baker!

  • In 1989, RI issued about $23 million in bonds for the office building housing 38 Studios…and the state retirement system compounded the error by buying the 38 Studio bonds.

When the building’s owners filed for bankruptcy, RI ended up owing it’s OWN pension system.

Oh what a tangled mess we missed – when governor Patrick, Schilling dissed!

Cutter, Fernstrom – blah! blah! Bland…

I am FED UP with ideological party Talking Heads who spout skewed spiels and postulate  party positions…without saying anything meaningful!

ABC “This Week” Sunday (06/03/12) with host George Stephanopoulos featured  American economist Paul Krugman, Professor of Economics and International Affairs at Princeton University. Krugman is also a Nobel prize winning author (economics) and New York Times columnist.)

The obligatory TWO political “Talking Heads” were: Romney campaign senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom and Obama’s deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter. Those two! Arrrggghh! HE said, SHE said. Sickening…just SICKENING!

On Jobs:

CUTTER: …the proposals that we’ve put forward that have been sitting there for nine months…independent estimates have put those proposals at a million jobs. So there are a million jobs sitting on that table in Congress right now that they could…move on. They need to get off their hands and stop rooting for failure. That’s really what’s going on right now. And we can impact the economy. …this policy of austerity, because of the refusal of Republicans to act, can change. We can give states the aid that they need to protect those teachers’ jobs. We can put construction workers back to work  by rebuilding our roads, bridges, and highways. We can cut taxes…

FEHRNSTROM: …this president is not adding jobs fast enough. And I think for anybody who is urgently waiting for improvement in the economy, last week was not a good week. And it’s not just the devastatingly weak jobs report we got on Friday. It was also the revision in GDP downward for the first quarter. It’s a drop in consumer confidence. It was an increase in unemployment claims.


And it’s not that we don’t think that this president is trying. I think he is. It’s just that his policies are not working…

KRUGMAN: Well, the economy is…not terrible, but it’s weak. The bitter irony here has to be for Obama, certainly for people like me, is that if the Republican answer is “let’s slash spending, let’s have low taxes,” that’s actually the policy we’ve been following. It’s amazing, actually. Especially if you look at the last couple of years, what we’ve actually seen is sharply…

Yeah, this is real government spending, so it’s federal, state and local combined, deflated, you know, adjusted for population growth and inflation, and it is plunging. It’s plunging mostly because of cutbacks at the state and local level, because the aid that they were receiving in the stimulus has run out, but also because unemployment benefits have been expiring because Congress won’t…Republicans in Congress won’t extend them.

…we’re actually practicing government austerity on a scale that we haven’t seen in 60 years. It’s not the president’s policy. In effect, we’ve already got the policies that Republicans say they will impose if they take the election, and yet, of course, it may lead to the defeat of this president.

On The Ryan Plan:

Refers to 2012 Republican $3.5 trillion Budget Proposal presented by U.S. Representative Republican Paul Ryan (Wisconsin). Ryan Plan includes Tax Cuts for the wealthy, decimates programs for the elderly and poor (like  Food-stamps and Medicare/Medicaid), cuts spending on transportation, cuts research and Pell Grants for low-income college students but does NOT touch defense.

FEHRNSTROM: (Romney’s) for — he’s for — he’s for the Ryan plan. He believes it goes in the right direction. The governor has also put forward a plan to reduce spending by $500 billion by the year 2016. In fact, he’s put details on the table about how exactly he would achieve that. So to say he doesn’t have a plan to — a plan to restrain government spending is just not true.

CUTTER: …that all sounds great, but the governor has not put out any details on how he is going to achieve that. The details that he has put out, a $5 trillion tax cut for millionaires and billionaires that he’s not just telling us how he’s going to pay for it, so he’s either blowing up the deficit or he’s raising taxes on the middle class…

… he’s going to deregulate Wall Street, which we know how that turns out. We’re going to go back to risky financial deals that crashed our economy. And on China, you know, we’ve been hearing this blustering on China for quite a while now. What exactly is the governor going to do?

KRUGMAN: The plan’s a fraud. The plan is a big bunch of tax cuts, some specified spending cuts, basically for poor people, and then a huge magic asterisk which is supposed to turn into a deficit reduction plan, but, in fact, if you look what’s actually in it, it’s a deficit-increasing plan.

…there is really no plan there, neither from Ryan, nor from Governor Romney….

On Romney as Governor of Massachusetts:

CUTTER: Massachusetts under Governor Romney…did fall to 47th out of 50 in jobs creation. Wages went down when they were going up in the rest of the country. He left his successor with debt and a deficit, and manufacturing jobs left that state at twice the rate as the rest of the country.

Now, at this point in (Romney’s) term, 40 months into his term, he had created about 4,000 jobs. At this point in the president’s term, Massachusetts has created five times that amount in Massachusetts. The reason the unemployment rate went down, in part, according to independent analysis in Massachusetts, is because 250,000 people left that state.

FEHRNSTROM: …this comes up repeatedly that Massachusetts was 47 out of 50 in terms of jobs growth. Actually, when Mitt Romney arrived, Massachusetts was an economic basket house. If you throw D.C. into the mix, we were 51 out of 51. By the time Mitt Romney left four years later, we were in the middle of the pack. We were 30th in the nation in terms of job growth. That’s the trend line that you want to see. That’s called a turnaround. And it’s what this president has been unable to execute with the national economy.

KRUGMAN: Massachusetts is a classic example, having nothing to do with current politics. It shows why America works as a currency union, while Europe doesn’t, because Massachusetts had a terrible bust at the end of the ’80s, and the unemployment rate eventually came way down, although there was no recovery in jobs. And the reason is people left, which is an interesting story, and it’s good that people could find jobs elsewhere, but I don’t think a president of the United States can solve our job problems by encouraging Americans to move to some other country to find work.

On Solyndra:

Mitt Romney’s big green flop

Konarka Technologies was developing panels that were lightweight, flexible, more versatile than traditional solar materials.

Boston Herald says: Romney personally doled out a $1.5 million renewable energy subsidy to the Lowell, MA startup in 2003, shortly after taking office on Beacon Hill. Konarka laid off its 85 workers and filed for bankruptcy June 2012. It plans to close and liquidate.

STEPHANOPOULOS: The Boston Herald…reported that a solar energy company that Mitt Romney supported as governor of Massachusetts with his own green jobs investments went bankrupt. It was one of several that have come up in the last couple of days, so isn’t this exactly the same story?

FEHRNSTROM: Well, that was a loan that was approved by the prior administration. The governor made it clear that his philosophy was that government should not be in the business of venture investing. Actions he took as governor were to limit the state’s ability to do that. He vetoed funds that were set aside for that purpose.

What the president did with Solyndra simply exposes the hypocrisy of his attacks against Bain Capital and free enterprise, because the president’s idea or his concept of free enterprise is government bureaucrats and politicians making investment decisions to reward their political contributors, which is exactly what happened at Solyndra, and it was a $500 million bust to the American taxpayer.

CUTTER: Well, just as Mitt Romney was implementing a program started under a previous administration, the president was doing the same thing. This program was started under the Bush administration. The process for the Solyndra loan was started under the Bush administration, and the loan was given to Solyndra to — to improve the clean-energy sector.

Now, that loan didn’t work out. And it’s tragic that it didn’t. But that’s 1.5 percent of a larger loan portfolio that is actually working. We now have the largest wind farm in the world in this country, first nuclear power plant in 20 years is being created of this country. Because of the investments that we’ve made in the clean-energy sector, we’ve created almost 250,000 jobs.

KRUGMAN: we’re talking as if $1 billion was a lot of money, and in $15 trillion economy is not. Solyndra was a mistake as part of a large program, which has been — by and large had a pretty good track record. Of course you’re going to find a mistake. I think, to be fair…this is ridiculous, that we are taking these tiny, tiny missteps which happen in any large organizations, including corporations, including Bain — Bain Capital had losers, too, right, even from the point of view of its investors? So this is ridiculous.

And the fact of the matter is, this president has not managed to get very much of what he wanted done. He — it’s terribly unfair that he’s being judged on the failure of the economy to respond to policies that had been largely dictated by a hostile Congress.

On social Issues:

“It is fitting that with the very first bill I sign the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act we are upholding one of this nation’s first principles: that we are all created equal and each deserve a chance to pursue our own version of happiness.”                                                                                               

FEHRNSTROM: Mitt Romney is pro-life. He’ll govern as a pro-life president. But you’re going to see the Democrats use all sorts of shiny objects to distract people’s attention from — from the Obama performance on the economy. This is not a social issue election…

CUTTER: If it’s not a social issue election, then why did Mitt Romney just spend the last year campaigning on social issues? These are his positions that he’s taken, whether it’s, you know, giving bosses control over whether female employees can get contraception, being for the so-called personhood amendment that would ban all forms of abortion, or, you know, telling the American people that he’ll get back to them on whether he supports Lilly Ledbetter, which is an economic issue and it should be a no-brainer, but the governor couldn’t even bring himself to be for that.

Lily Ledbetter (Alabama, born 1938) was nearing retirement when she discovered that her male colleagues were earning much more than she was. A jury found her employer, Alabama Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company guilty of pay discrimination. The Supreme Court threw out the case  because she did NOT file her suit within 180 days of the date that Goodyear first paid her less than her peers.                        

When asked about the case in April, 2012, a Romney spokesman reportedly told CNN: “We’ll get back to you”.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So how much do these issues matter? I still can’t figure it out listening to you two…

Hey George…I can’t either! Nobody will EVER FIGURE IT OUT by listening to party ideologues. Have you not figured this out yet?

Stop putting these pre-programmed robots on shows and bring in economists and people who can look at the facts and analyze them outside of ideology. People who will say what’s what – NOT what’s that!

These days…one party will not even let another party speak! We’ve become so uncivil, confrontational, disrespectful and discourteous that we’ll storm into another person’s event – even if those people DON’T want to hear YOU – shout to MAKE OURSELVES HEARD!? 

When Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod held a press conference outside the Massachusetts State House (May 31) to denounce Romney’s performance as state governor…Romney’s supporters (all 25 of them in Massachusetts) turned out and tried to drown out Axelrod. Why? Whose mind did you change by doing that? Why won’t you just listen to what he has to say – and if you don’t want to listen – why prevent others who want to listen?

I HOPE DEMOCRATS DO NOT ALLOW THIS, either. I thought that Romney campaign stunt was disgusting and shameful. It reflects poorly on Romney…and those supporters! 

In these days of Anything Goes Politics I’m sure they walked off patting themselves on the back…imagine that!

More Republican Hypocrisy: Solindra and Schilling…

Does the name Solyndra – mean anything to you?

It’s the California Solar Company that got huge government subsidies (a 535 million-dollar loan guarantee) from Stimulus Funds in 2009. Solyndra went bankrupt in 2011 and laid off about 11-hundred employees.

President Obama praised the solar panel maker as a model of Green Energy and when it failed, “The Party of NO” started thumping their chests!

Republicans roared:

Florida Representative Cliff Stearns, head of the subcommittee on oversight and investigations for the Energy and Commerce committee said: “In an apparent rush to push stimulus dollars out the door, the Obama Administration wasted $535 million in taxpayer funds in guaranteeing a loan to a firm that has proven to be unviable in the global market.”*

Republican members of the committee churned out a subpoena to get documents from the Office of Management and Budget over the Department of Energy loan.

According to a Forbes article, only this week, Republicans tried to create another Solyndra-type furor over two other solar companies: Bright source Energy (apparently used insiders to get its loan guarantees) and First Solar (whose CEO cashed nearly half-a-million-dollars of his shares while taking public money).

Ohio Republican, Jim Jordan. OUTRAGED over solar companies mismanagement…

Republicans scheduled a hearing of a subcommittee of the Committee on Government Oversight and Reform that oversees the stimulus program. Subcommittee chair, Republican Jim Jordan of Ohio opened the hearing with a withering attack on clean tech companies that seek government assistance.

Republicans DON’T like Clean Energy. The very same subsidies they decry for Solar companies they champion and embrace for big oil, gas and coal companies! Maybe solar companies don’t have deep enough pockets – or lobbyists – or PAC’s – who can fund GOP campaigns and travel?

Fast Forward to this week…

To Curt Schilling.

Name mean anything to you?

He’s a former ace pitcher for the Boston Red Sox who helped the team break its cursed losing streak…in 2004.

Schilling, whom many consider to be a jerk, developed near cult status in Boston. Until he moved from sports icon to political champion – and started campaigning for John McCain! Before you know it, people are speculating about “Curt Schilling for Senate” to fill Ted Kennedy’s vacant seat…

We escaped a Senator Schilling, thank goodness!

Mr. Schilling started a Video Game company: 38 Studios in 2006. Being a Republican, and seeing that they’re ALL born holding a copy of NAFTA rules and regulations (they being natural businessmen) His 38-ness declared: I understand one thing, that’s big business, and big business is what we’ve allowed to take over in far too many places and in far too many areas that the people need to take back” and he proceeded to do that by establishing a small business.

Mr. Schilling then decided that he needed government subsidies – taxpayer subsidies (like those the department of Energy gave to Solyndra) for his company and decided to play a game of  “my ego or yours” with lawmakers.

In 2010, he threatened to move his 4-year-old company to neighboring Rhode Island. The Ocean State was offering Schilling’s company $75 million in loan guarantees. Schilling pledged to bring 450 new jobs to Rhode Island over the next three years. He of course preferred to STAY in liberal Massachusetts but would Massachusetts play ball?

Schilling loaded the bases, confident in his ability to throw a strike. Massachusetts lawmakers told him to: walk!

Have I mentioned that our governor Deval Patrick is a loyal Obama friend and colleague, who, like the president, is also from Chicago?

  • Did I say that Curt Schilling supported Republican Charlie Baker (against Deval Patrick) for governor in 2010?
  • And that Schilling contributed to Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin in their 2008 presidential bid against Obama?

Naturally none of that factored into any decisions…of course.

Greg Bialecki, Massachusetts secretary of housing and economic development, said: Schilling apparently hoped his discussions with Rhode Island officials would goad Massachusetts into making him a better offer. Although Bialecki said he had discussed possible tax breaks with Schilling earlier this year, in the end Massachusetts was unwilling to offer such a big incentive package to one company.

Schilling took off, went to Rhode Island…with the following conditions:

  • 38 Studios must pay $8 million in annual fees to the economic development agency over the 10-year life of the loan.
  • The company must create 450 new jobs in stages over three years
  • 38 Studios pays a penalty of $7,500 per year for each job it fails to create on schedule.
  • The company must pay Rhode Island an annual ‘guaranty fee’ each May.

In addition:

  • Loan comes from lending institutions, not the state, BUT Rhode Island taxpayers are stuck with the unpaid balance of the loan if 38 Studios fails.
  • The state gets first rights to all of the company’s collateral, including intellectual property rights to any 38 Studios games. (The company unveiled its much-anticipated first game: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning in February.)
  • Rhode Island can use that to recover money if the company can’t repay the loans.

Rick Gorka, a spokesman for the campaign of Massachusetts Republican Charles D. Baker, said Schilling’s departure was an example of a “toxic business climate’’ created by Democratic incumbent Governor Deval Patrick. (No wonder Baker lost, with advice like that!)

Free from the weight of Mr. Schilling’s ego, Massachusetts bounced back. The latest unemployment figures (May 17) put the Bay State’s unemployment rate at 6.3 percent last month (April 2012).

And Schilling? Well, this week his company was unable to pay workers Thursday (May 17/2012) and the check for this year’s 1.25 million-dollar guaranty payment to Rhode Island, due this month, bounced.

Bureau of labor Statistics figures put Rhode Island’s unemployment rate in March 2012 at: 11.1 percent. Massachusetts was: 6.5 percent.

  • In 2009: Rhode Island’s unemployment rate (civilian non-institutional population) was at: 10.8 percent. In 2010 it was: 11.6 percent. Massachusetts was: 8.2 and 8.5 percent.

Back then when Schilling decided to move his company to Rhode Island, Lincoln Chafee – running for governor of Rhode Island as an independent – described Curt Schilling as: “I just remember his own teammates didn’t like him…they thought he was a bit of a salesman…”

Chafee said more, but I am first and foremost a Red Sox fan. Yes. Still!

So where are the Republicans?

Any calls for an investigation?

Any subpoena here to examine the agreement with a “firm that has proven to be unviable in the global market”?*

Solyndra’s loan is much bigger and worthy of investigation…

But Schilling?

Like he said back then: Any responsible entrepreneur exhausts every avenue of potential funding when running a start-up company; we’re no different.’’ He had a responsibility to his 180 employees to explore every option to make 38 Studios a success.

Listen up, Solyndra – when the Department of Energy dangled those millions in front of you, you did what? Exhausted an avenue of potential funding! Exhaust indeed…

In February 2011, Mr. Schilling said: “There can be no question our country is in the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes. I also think there can be no question that it falls on us, the individuals, to find a way out of our own personal crisis.”

Well now – find your way, Mr. Schilling – or maybe it’s easier to TALK, huh, especially when we have NO idea what the heck we’re talking about – as in the usual Republican style!

Bruins Lose – No Presidential SNUB This Season, Boston!

Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas won’t get to snub President Obama this time around.

Ever since THE Curt Schilling of Ice Hockey aired his dislike of the president in January…I’ve  gone OFF him big time. I want to make a suggestion to Sports figures. I’d keep my politics out of it, if I was you.

For those of you who missed the drama, Boston Bruins Ice Hockey goalie his controversy-ness, Tim Thomas, refused to join other team members for a White House ceremony in January (2012).

The Michigan native claims that he’s: Opposed to what he called the “out of control” growth of the federal government. So when President Obama invited the team to the White House for the usual congratulatory ceremony, he turned it down.

Two other players did not go. They could very well have had similar reasons but they were smart enough NOT to Tweet/Blog or snipe about it on Facebook…far as I know. 

Politics is a Divider.

Yes, you’re free to express your opinion, this is America and all. But remember, when you bring in the politics, you turn a lot of people off. I watch Big Pappy (David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox) and Tom Brady (New England Patriots) and Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics) and I see popular sportsmen…and I don’t know or CARE which party or President they support. 

I look at Tim Thomas and I see the guy who snubbed the President! 

The minute you start bringing in politics, start campaigning for a Republican or a Democrat, people begin watching YOU differently. Even team members see you differently. The coach is seeing you differently, whether he supports your stance – or the guy you just snubbed. Team members who support your political views see you differently – team members who don’t see you differently. The team owner is seeing you differently…fans see you differently. We now see you through our own prejudices.

White House. Most of us will never see this place, let along get INVITED inside. It is a great honor, regardless of WHO is president.

Call it what you will, that’s human nature. And as a sports athlete, it’s best to NOT unleash these emotions in fans and potential supporters.

You may also lose endorsements too. There may be companies who are thinking of offering you an endorsement  but won’t NOW because they don’t want political views associated with their products.

When a sports team wins a championship and the President of America INVITES  that team to the White House it is a GREAT HONOR that only a handful of people ever get. The 99-percent of us may never visit the White House at all.

When the TEAM is invited, YOU DO NOT SHAME THE TEAM and the city by NOT going because YOU don’t like the President’s policies. He did not invite YOU, he invited THE TEAM. It’s NOT about you. Shut up! Or go and ask for Tea…if that’s your Party!

It’s about YOU if he meets you at some event and invites YOU and your family to the White House. THEN you are within your purview to say NO for whatever reason you choose, sensible or not.

People NEED to be able to MAKE that distinction and Tim Thomas could not – or would not.

And I don’t CARE who the president is, George Bush, Barak Obama or Sarah Palin.

Can you see the Celtics invited to the White House to meet President Palin and one of them saying: “I’m not going – I can’t stand her!” No, YOU DON’T SAY THAT. If you really, really don’t want to go, don’t go. Just keep quiet. Be cool. Be smart and DON’T SHAME THE REST OF US with your nonsense.

Do you get it, Mr. Thomas. It is NOT about Democrats or Republicans, black presidents or white presidents. Deficit presidents like George Bush or surplus presidents like Bill Clinton. It is about the OFFICE of the President of the Untied States of America.

And if we don’t like the fact that it’s a BLACK person or a WOMAN or an ATHEIST holding that office that’s fine. But unless that person’s a real jerk we RESPECT the

office. Some of us don’t get it. We don’t like Obama so we demean the office. But then some sports have their demographics.

Go work on your values Mr. Thomas and may it occupy a prominent spot on your trophy wall!

Health Care Reform and The Budget to Nowhere…

I hate to say this…but, RICK SANTORUM was right!!!

Mitt Romney is/can be a deer in the headlights when it comes to Health Care Reform! If you know the right questions to ask…which most reporters seem NOT to know or are AFRAID to ask (of ALL the candidates).

Santorum would have been a more difficult candidate to challenge on Health Care Reform – except that Santorum is so far from the mainstream he’s X-treme! So Republicans had NO choice, really…

Still, Santorum has a point. Can you see that debate between Obama and Romney when the question of Health Care Reform comes up? I don’t know about YOU, but I can hardly wait!

But then, Republicans have taken the Art of Hypocrisy to new heights. After all, they’re the very same people who tried to crucify President Clinton for adultery and then condoned their own party’s adulterers…because when a Republican commits adultery, it is not EVEN a sin LIKE IT IS when Democrats do it. Why? The Bible tells them so, of course!

Haven’t you read the gospel of John? John Boehner 12:32? It says “And now this I write to you, my dearly beloved republicans, that when the unpatriotic (meaning Democrats) commit a sin, no matter how small or insignificant, that sin shall be exposed and the offender publicly castigated and run out of their dwelling place and their place of employment to be an example to unbelievers.

But if a publican (meaning Republicans) should stumble and sin, remember he is human. Therefore, his sin, no matter how horrendous, shall be covered up and held close, so that others shall not know of it. For surely, I say to you. The sins of the unpatriotic are greater than the sum of the sins of the publicans.”

Let’s hear Mitt Romney and his Republican supporters explain WHY Health Care Reform is OK for Massachusetts but not OK for the rest of the nation. Why is it OK to mandate in a state, but not OK to mandate for the nation? I guess it’s because the people living in Massachusetts, even the Republicans, are radical Liberals…so anything goes here!

As Wisconsin Representative, Republican Paul Ryan put it in an interview with NBC’s Ann Curry: (Romney) “..was the governor of Massachusetts, which is a fairly liberal state; he had a democratic legislature he had to work with and so he had to make compromises”. Indeed! Romney “compromised” so much he ended up compromising his integrity!

Of course we in Massachusetts know it was not really Romney who signed the bill. It was secretly president Obama hiding under Romney’s desk. If Mormons believed in the concept of the Trinity Godhead – then maybe I could say it was one of Romney’s three selves: “FLIP’, “FLOP” or “MISSPOKE”. Please explain that, Mr. Romney. Not to me. I get it. I LIVE in Massachusetts. Explain it to Republicans, especially TEA PARTY Republicans across the board who don’t like mandates…and claim that THIS is the MAIN reason they oppose President Obama’s Health Care bill…

  • Of course WE know the REAL reason they oppose Health Care and everything else Obama does is because: They so HATE Obama they’re vowed to OPPOSE anything he does with ONE reason and ONE REASON alone: to ensue he becomes a One-term President.

They NEVER cared under George Bush… Remember the $400-million Bridge to Nowhere that Sarah Palin first thought was “essential” before it was not! That became the face of waste and that was a Republican – Ted Stevens of Alaska.

President Clinton left a surplus. Bush took over and LEFT a huge deficit. DID YOU HEAR JOHN BOEHNER OR PAUL RYAN TALKING ABOUT CUTTING COST DURING THE BUSH TERM IN OFFICE? Why not? IS spending different, when it’s Republicans doing the spending? I guess that depends on what “is” really is!

Do you remember the debate over the COST of the War in Iraq? Did you see Mitch McConnell pontificating about the Cost? No. He voted FOR military action in Iraq, the LEADING cause of American Deficits/Debt and voted to authorize 86 billion of tax dollars for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And what do you have to show for this money, Mr McConnell. A great victory? Money better spent than on health care for Americans…?

That war had/HAS such a huge cost…on every front. Emotionally, politically – a disaster. Financially, an economy killer. Geo-politically? On the family? On the soldiers? On the NATION!?


RESULT of ALL this waste of time, money and lives: Iran one – America zero!

Take that same amount of money or less, and spend it on Health Care for people HERE in America. Heck no! We need to keep the COSTS down. Anything to do with America – keep costs down. Military action overseas – spend, spend, spend!!!

Slam a couple of multi-million-dollar missiles into a town in Afghanistan, kill innocents, enrage more Muslims. That’s fine. Price just right.  Health Care for kids in America…too expensive.

So close fire stations, cut funding for police, schools and after-school programs that keep kids of the streets and put them on a path to self-sufficiency so they will not go on the Welfare that you hate so much…that’s fine. Build another missile – of course! We still have more places in Afghanistan to bomb especially as that’s going so well!

Let’s take a page from Paul Ryan’s book. Let’s pretend we really, really CARE about budget deficits. We sooo do not want to leave DEBT for our kids. Do we work with the President to come up with a budget that will pass? NO!!! Mr. Ryan wastes more time and resources ON A BUDGET THAT HE KNOWS FULL WELL WILL NOT PASS. But you diligently work on behalf of the people who sent you to Washington by getting the House to debate it…after which your budget dies. Now you’ve helped cut the deficit. Go on TV and SAY so!

The House knows the Senate will not even LOOK at Ryan’s budget. So Ryan’s budget goes nowhere. But Ryan can say HE did something about cutting the deficit. And he’s right, because (in case YOU, like the media and the Stock Market missed it) the DEFICIT was automatically halved the moment Ryan’s budget died on the House floor.

Yes, indeed. Ryan can be so proud. Now that is Leadership we can depend on! I don’t think he needs to do anything else to tackle deficit reduction, do you? He’s done ALL THAT HE CAN DO…

Thanks to him, half of the Deficit was wiped away. Now all he has to do is sit tight until HE becomes president to wipe away the remaining half!

Romney’s Back-Flip…Flop…on “Work”

Not since President Clinton questioned the meaning of “is” — have I wondered what a simple word like work means. Until now!

What does WORK mean to the Romneys…and Republicans…?

When you’re talking about Mitt Romney’s wife Ann Romney, it means STAYING HOME taking care of kids. Then it’s exceedingly hard work, too. So hard, in fact, that you cannot even drag yourself out of bed to go to an office and hold down a 9-5 job where you are expected to PLAY all day!

When it comes to Welfare Moms…WORK means STAYING HOME and playing so much that you then need to pack those easy going little darlings off somewhere and jog to a bus stop, transfer to another bus or a train then sprint to a 9-5 job where you KEEP YOUR NOSE TO THE GRIND – and WORK all day.

Didn’t I tell you…?

Mitt Romney loves women, especially poor women…and he wants them to work.

Meaning like his wife, he wants you to STAY home and raise your kids. Or does he? NO. Wait. He wants poor women to go to work…yes WORK! And no, NOT work in the way it applies to his wife where you stay home…!

You get it…? I know it would not be long before he put another one of his three Flip-Flop shod feet into his mouth!

Yes. He wants mothers on welfare to go to WORK.

But before they head off to WORK — let us look at a definition of WORK, as coming from the Republican Camp, from Ann Romney, from Michele Bachmann … 

(There really is a GOD, you know. Even some of us non-Republicans have to believe — when we see some superior being raining well deserved justice down on Republicans).

Hillary Rosen

When Democratic strategist, Hilary Rosen (poor woman), said Ann Romney never worked a day in her life – we KNOW she meant never held a job in the rat race. We know Rosen was NOT referring to child rearing and raising a family.

In America when people ask you: Do you work? They’re not asking you if you stay home and take care of kids or a home. They want to know: Do you have a job where you leave your kids/home and engage in an activity for which you get a regular paycheck where some employer removes taxes and other deductions.

Maybe we should expand that to mean “Stay-Home Mom/Person” but chauvinistic beings that we are, we don’t. NOT YET!!!

Maybe taking care of kids and home SHOULD  be termed a full time job. Maybe the working spouse should come home, write the stay home partner a check, remove taxes etc and say: Honey, here is your salary. But so far, we’ve not reached that elevated state of thinking.

When the earning partner puts that money into a joint account or hands the stay home partner the check or whatever arrangement they have, that stay home person is essentially being paid for a job done. WE ALL KNOW THAT. I and many people DO NOT DISPUTE that child rearing is hard work.

I went/am going through it.

But when someone asks me if I work, I know they’re not asking me if I take care of my son. 

Ann Romney knew it. Rosen knew it. Democrats knew it. Republicans knew it. But again, given the Dumbing of America, the Fear Factor, the Pandering Factor, the Stupidity Factor, the Grandstanding Factor, the Divisive Factor, the Cult of Dissent for Political Gain Factor, the Romney Camp and Republicans saw an opening, AND THEY TOOK IT. Turns out it was a  Foxhole…and not the rabbit warren they thought it was with multiple exits!

See where it got them?

To Welfare moms…and to ALL OTHER MOMS WHO HAVE TWO JOBS by Republican definitions: Child Rearing and Office jobs. 

So when I refer to “work” here, don’t give me any B.S about childcare – ’cause right now I have laundry waiting, and it’s not gonna do itself.  I’m referring to moms who take care of kids, and elderly parents and STILL MUST hold down a paying job…that brings a paycheck!

To moms who in addition to those 2 jobs (office and home)… ALSO hold a 3rd Part-time job too! They just thought they had two jobs until Ann Romney made them add childcare and now they realize they are holding 3 jobs! Yet they will NEVER experience the lifestyle of Mrs. Ann Romney with her ONE job!

So if Child Rearing is a full time job for Ann Romney…Why does Mitt Romney want to load poor moms with MORE work, like a job…a job as in outside the home — which his wife does not do? Why the discrepancy…?

So let’s see what Rosen said: “Ann Romney never worked a day in her life.” And she’s right. Ann Romney has not worked as we define work.

If Rosen had said: Parenting is not work, that would be different.

if Rosen had said: All Ann Romney has done is stay home and care for kids, thereby devaluing that contribution, this would be different. I won’t support any dismissal of the contribution made in the home.

Not easy - houseWORK!

Ann Romney is lucky and blessed to have a husband who can provide for her – and provide it in a harmonious setting. Many of us would want to be in a situation like Ann Romney. Her kids appear to be grounded, her husband appears to be content. I’ve NEVER heard even a hint of infidelity in that marriage (as compared to the Palin’s or Clinton’s). She appears to have done a great job in that regard. The only criticism I have against the Romney family is: Why did none of your sons join the army and fight for the country you love so much?

But then I don’t want my son in the army, either…especially when people like Dick Cheney and John McCain keep calling for war!

Rosen stated a fact, and because that fact was not convenient for some, THAT FACT became a non-fact…lost in “truthiness”.

(According to online encyclopedia, Wikipedia: Truthiness is a term coined by American television comedian Stephen Colbert. It’s a quality characterizing a “truth” that a person claims to know intuitively “from the gut” or because it “feels right” without regard to evidence, logic, intellectual examination, or facts. 

BACK IN JANUARY, what did Romney say?: “Mothers on welfare need to go to work”? He wants mothers on welfare to go to work or lose their benefits. I don’t support welfare, which I think beats people DOWN. So I’m NOT against getting people off welfare. This is NOT the argument here. If Romney can get people off welfare, go Romney! Should have tried it here, in Massachusetts, but then if he HAD, he’d be disassociating with it now, anyway.

Epitome of the working woman! On stage and off...

If we play dumb like Romney and Republicans did on Rosen’s remarks, what does Romney mean? Seems his understanding of work appears to jive with that of Rosens – but GASP – that CANNOT BE!

So what does Romney mean again, by work?

Because after all the furor from his side, he cannot mean work, WORK? Can he? Because that would be a MAJOR Flip-flop…AGAIN!

Romney’s words:  “I wanted to increase the work requirement…that even if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to work…And people said, ‘Well that’s heartless’ (imagine people thinking something like that!)…and I said NO. No, I’m willing to spend more giving day care to allow parent to go back to work. It’ll cost the state more providing that day care, but I want individuals to have the dignity of work.”

“Dignity of work?”

Is Romney saying his wife is also lacking that “dignity” of work, since she is at home taking care of kids – or does that only apply to women on welfare?

Or do we just agree that Rosen was right – and allow this to go away?

Know what bugged me…?

How quick many Democrats were to rush to condemn Rosen. Doesn’t make you want to be a strategist for them, now does it? How about saying: “Hey. Time out! Rosen was NOT criticizing Ann Romney for staying home and raising her kids. She was just pointing out that Romney has not held a paying job in the rat race and so she doesn’t share the frustrations of those of us who have had to…”:

  • Get up early, VERY early, and wake and dress kids, feed them, pack lunches, head to a car, bus, train, with a stroller, and drop the kid off at Day Care
  • Scramble to find an alternative if there is an unforeseen circumstance at the Day Care, like a burst pipe in the winter…and the Day Care is closed?
  • At the end of the day, reverse the stress. Race to the bus/train to reach the Day Care BEFORE the time when they start charging you extra! Stand in the snow in an icy bust stop and wait for a bus that never comes because of the snow havoc?
  • Reach home late and still have to prepare dinner, get kids to bed, prepare for the next morning when your living hell of a life begins all over…

  • I’m not even going to get into budgets, shopping, doctor’s appointments, etc…

Did Democrats make those arguments in support of Rosen?

No – they threw her to the wolves. (Ms. Rosen – ssshhhh! Not worth it! Go Independent!) 

That’s politics these day…every ship is a Titanic!!!
