Because often you get your wish, and…
When you get it, it sometimes turns against you! It’s even worse when we DON’T listen to warnings from others – or ignore red flags – or heed that inner, nagging voice! So now Republicans have their President-elect. Trump! And I wonder how that feels in private. Because Trump and his beliefs do not jive with Conservative Republicans and their beliefs.
However, republicans were so blinded by Supreme Court appointments and “repealing” Obamacare” that they jumped into bed with Trump. Now whatever Trump does reflects on them! My prediction is: The same wave that swept them into office will also sweep them back out…except the ebbing wave could be a Tsunami!
If I was advising the Republican Party, here’s what I’d tell them:
Take the moral high road. Take a strong stance. Forget about the Supreme Court. Judges will not dictate how Americans live their lives. If you try to use the courts to put restrictions on people or ram your personal beliefs down others throats, you will unleash a tide of civil unrest and opposition that will hurt not only the economy, but America’s reputation and your party’s credibility and prospects.
Remember, REMEMBER, that MORE people voted AGAINST Trump than FOR Trump. All those people who voted 3rd parties, 3rd candidates or write-ins also voted AGAINST Trump too!
Plus many of the people who voted FOR Trump do not necessarily like Trump or even support Trump or the GOP. They just chose to thumb their noses against “the establishment” and TRY Trump for size. These voters can return Trump in 4 years (if by then we still have a democracy!)…or demand a mid-term exchange in 2 years!
Very few republicans came out against Trump and stuck to their principles.
Most of them, like Speaker Paul Ryan and that spineless Utah Representative Jason Chaffetz, flip-flopped and wavered when they thought of their own political futures. They rushed to reject Trump when polls showed he was losing – then rushed to bow at the altar of Trump when it seemed like he was winning. Do they think Trump will EVER forget they did not support him during most of his campaign!
Republicans have a shock coming – a MAJOR shock. Because if they have not yet figured it out yet, Trump will do things only one way: TRUMP’S way, and he won’t care whether that advances or decreases “Republican goals”, especially as he’s NOT beholden to them for money or connections or advice. Trump is interested only in advancing one brand: TRUMP!
And I for one, can’t wait!
- I can’t wait to see how Trump deals with Russia and Putin – and see how that fits with GOP goals.
- Can’t wait to see how he deals with foreign interventions – and how that fits with GOP goals.
- Can’t wait to see how he deals with Immigration Reform – and Muslims – and how that fits with GOP goals.
- Can’t wait to see how he goes about cutting the debt – and how that fits with GOP goals.
- Can’t wait to see how many white supremacists he places in positions of power…and how that fits with GOP protestations of non-racism.
- Can’t wait to see how many family members Trump invites to the swamp…and how this plays out with Republicans attacks on “Pay for Play”.
Finally, I also wish to remind Republicans that the results of this election DO NOT reflect a long-term trend. So far, this election remains an anomaly UNLESS Trump delivers, brings never-Trumpers into the fold, does not get involved in “Pay for Play” scandals related to his business dealings, does NOT alienate those who voted for him and/or DOES NOT further repulse those who did NOT vote for him!
Guess if anyone can do this, it is Donald Trump. I, for one, am willing to give him a chance…
Which is MORE than Republicans gave to President Obama. Around this time in 2008, right after President Obama was first elected, Republicans were meeting in secret to plot and plan how to undermine Obama and pledging loyalty to their “Just Say NO!” approach. Yet today, those very same republicans are urging people to support the new president and give him a chance. Go figure!
Hypocrites. DRAIN THE SWAMP, Mr. Trump!!! We’re watching and waiting with extra nets, thigh-high waders and some stun guns and harpoons for the many toothy alligators, sharks and other vermin lurking below the surface.
And DO NOT forget the vultures circling overhead!
Or the establishment rattlesnakes swimming around you, with tape on their rattlers! Said rattlers (Giuliani, Gingrich, et al) see YOU as their meal-ticket to positions they would NEVER otherwise gain. Because they are so yesterday, their return date is past…even to their own fellow republicans who DO NOT want them, would not vote for them or even hire them – except to hand them a 10-foot pole (30 foot pole?) to propel themselves deeper into the swamp!!!
I suspect many voters already have buyers remorse. Too bad. No returns until 2020. Don’t lose that receipt!

Colin Powell called it about Iraq – when he said: If we break it, we own it! Except NOW we don’t want it!
Today a force of militants calling themselves the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is nearing Baghdad, after marching across Iraq like a plague of locusts, destroying all opposition in it’s path. Al Queda is afraid of them – does that make you nervous?
Isis — Egyptian goddess – friend to the downtrodden. The name means: throne! Married her brother Osiris – and used her magic to restore his life after his body parts were scattered across the world. Symbolic, yes?
I am as outraged today as I was in 2003 when U.S. King George II (Bush the Younger) bombed Iraq. I still don’t understand WHY America invaded Iraq and toppled Saddam Hussein. I know of all the given reasons: U.S. gas and oil-guzzling interests; revenge for a slight to the president’s father (U.S King George the First) or Weapons Of Mass Destruction (WMDs). But I still don’t get it…Why? Why, why?
Now Republicans – look back and tell me Iraq and the Middle East were NOT more stable with Saddam in power?
Naturally republicans are blaming Obama – because he withdrew US troops, took them out of a situation they could NOT win. We should have left them to be blown up to bits every day -to return home with missing limbs and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) the Veteran’s Administration is now faking it treated! Iraq today is NOT all about Obama and his choices. Obama had to treat an outbreak amid a republican-induced epidemic! Right or wrong, neither choice (leave troops/pull troops) could fix Iraq…just delay the inevitable.
If only republicans would say: “Gosh we messed up big time by invading Iraq, but pulling troops out did not help either”. OK, I’d buy that. But they ALL blame Obama, like what they did was working so well: Every Iraqi was overjoyed with the overthrow of the Saddam regime; the Sunnis were happy, the Shiites were content, the Kurds up north were waving the Iraqi flag and neighboring countries were in raptures! It was one big happy family holding July 4 barbecues; the surge was surging until Obama came along and blew all that hard work (or piece of pie as Republicans probably see it) by sending the troops home!
TEXAS Republican Michael McCaul, Chair of House Committee on Homeland Security, is on TV Sunday morning (6/15) urging the U.S. BACK into Iraq and blaming Obama for the debacle in Iraq. HE DOES NOT SEE THAT THERE WOULD BE NO ISIS WITHOUT THE REPUBLICAN GENERATED PSEUDO SCENARIO THEY SOLD TO GULLIBLE AMERICANS FOR THE GOP’s IMMORAL INVASION OF A COUNTRY THAT WAS NO THREAT. Naturally, send the troops back – and ISIS will just give up. Syria will be magically mended; Iran will stop enriching Uranium…and Israel will no longer want to bomb any of these countries. Magic…
So republicans want US troops back in Iraq? How about them giving their kids a crash course in Terrorism 101 and sending their pampered offspring to Iraq to face the invading ISIS jihadists? Pull their kids out of their fancy schools and well-paying jobs, give them body armor that is deficient and send them off to Iraq!
And until then, please DON’T ask more mostly poor and disenfranchised kids to lay down their lives for your misguided ideological nonsense. Until every Senator and every Representative is willing to don fatigues and go to Iraq, they need to STOP sending other people’s kids/loved ones to get blown by homemade bombs then return to a broken and underfunded Veteran’s Administration.
So House MAJORITY Leader, Virginia Republican Eric Cantor lost his reelection bid. Great. They ALL need to lose. House speaker John Boehner should be next…
Lesson for Democrats: Gerrymandering does NOT work! (Not that democrats will listen to no-trust-fund insignificant ME, who can’t afford to pay $50-thousand for a plate of food OR $100-thousand if I brought my son!) However, Listen up Democrats: gerrymandering – creating ideological districts that you think will benefit you – DOES NOT WORK in the long run AND MAY NOT WORK THE WAY YOU THINK IT WILL!
The best district is one where there is an ebb and flow. It is a MIX of ideology, thought, feeling, support, demographics and party loyalty. It is one where people vote for a Republican today but can also vote for a Democrat tomorrow. It is one where the Representative can vote on a popular issue or one he believes IN, even if some constituents DO NOT; a vote that may be in the interest of the country but not necessarily in the best interest of that district OR political party…a district where the majority of a DIVERSE view counts more than the narrow, petty view of a minority.
Republicans are sowing the seeds of the gerrymandering districts they created JUST TO CONTROL THE HOUSE. Well you control it now. Nice feeling ain’t it? You created lily-white districts where immigration is not an issue for them. So even though many states and major U.S. cities are reeling from the effects of unchecked immigration, even if farmers and many other industries are dependent on immigrant labor, even if the LEGAL immigration system is inadequate, even if the current impasse on immigration is allowing millions of UNDOCUMENTED workers to remain in the shadows, so what? Doesn’t affect me – don’t care!
Well, here’s the scenario facing the GOP:
- Republicans will NEVER win the majority of Hispanic voters with their stand on Immigration. For nearly EVERY Hispanic who can vote, he/she knows of, loves or has a family member WHO IS UNDOCUMENTED and is depending on Immigration Reform to get that person legalized. Hispanics are not PRO Immigration Reform for noble or ideological reasons – they support it because they want their mother, father, uncle, cousin, lover, spouse, best friend, relative, neighbor to BE LEGAL!
- That holds true for voters from OTHER immigrant groups. Asians are another large voting bloc that is tied to Immigration Reform. Do Republicans realize the number of Vietnamese, Chinese, Koreans, Philippinos and other nationalities like Haitians, Jamaicans/English Caribbean, Irish, Eastern Europeans, Indians etc who are HERE in the US with similar desires/reasons for Immigration Reform?
- The Tea Party is NOT, repeat NOT popular nationally. How can it be, when we just heard that Cantor also lost in part because he supported the move to compromise on the Government Shutdown. The Tea Party STILL thinks that the government SHOULD HAVE REMAINED CLOSED UNTIL THEY GOT WHAT THEY WANTED. STILL think this is the way to go when America came so CLOSE to the brink of economic, social and political disaster. Yet, they want a repeat – and beyond a repeat, they want the system to crash so they can remake it in their image.
- Republicans deserve this debacle because they are afraid to kick the Tea Party out. KICK THEM OUT! Take the next 4 years to rebuild and rebrand. Pass Immigration Reform – DON’T push the president to take matters into his own hands. Compromise, roll your sleeves, get working IN THE INTEREST OF THE COUNTRY instead of preserving what works for you and your party. What’s best for any one party may not necessarily be best for America. Think slavery!
- Choose a speaker with guts/cahones who is vested in moving the country (not his career) forward. Because the harder Boehner tries to protect his job and the more he sells his soul to do that, the more the job slips AWAY from him. Trying to please EVERYBODY never works.
Still, maybe the Tea Party win in Virginia will make some “genuine” Republicans step up and say: “Enough. I’m not sending this uncompromising guy to Washington…I want someone who will NOT shut the government down, someone who will cross the aisle, someone who is willing to meet democrats halfway and even sometimes three-quarters of the way, instead of someone who is doggedly holding his ground even when that ground is slipping into the ocean”.
John Boehner is one of the worst House Speakers. To me he’s even worse than Newt Gingrich. At least with Gingrich there was the “Contract With America”. With Boehner there’s what? Crying, I guess… Ironically, Boehner was part of the Republican posse who gave Gingrich the ultimatum: “Resign – or be voted out!” Live by the sword, die by the sword. Well Boehner: Resign or be voted out! Which one…?
Crying works for some people – but won’t work for you Boehner. Now if Michelle Bachman started crying…(don’t say it. Please don’t. Thanks…)
Remember I told you that Romney will SAY anything, do ANYTHING to further his political ambitions? Well here’s how I’m breaking it down:
Mitt Romney left Bain in 1999…went to the Olympics, asked Congress for a huge Taxpayer Bailout (the kind he NOW hates), propped up the Olympics THEN decided it was an opportune moment to pursue his burning ambition, his ULTIMATE GOAL:
Reedeem his dad’s failure to become U.S. President in 1968 by ensuring George Romney’s son does get into the White House where Mitt Romney thinks he belongs. Look at me now, daddy! I did it for you!
And he’s been working towards this like the elephant that never forgets…
Did Mitt Romney have Massachusetts residency or did he have Utah residency…when he ran for MA governor in 2002? You judge.
Utah charges STATE taxes at TWO different rates.
Residents pay a LOWER rate and there’s a box you check off that asks if you are a resident or NOT. During his stay in Utah, Romney paid the LOWER TAX RATE used by Utah residents but he DID NOT CHECK THE BOX – he left it blank. (He MISWROTE).
But Romney can’t DENY that he paid the lower tax rate for UTAH residents. Guess he saw himself as a Utah RESIDENT…at that convenient (for him, NOT for Utah) point in time.
So he comes to Massachusetts and makes a bid for governor and Massachusetts democrats say: “Not so fast. Are you a Utah resident or a Massachusetts resident?” and Romney says: “I’ve ALWAYS been a Massachusetts resident!”. (Yep! Even when he was paying the LOWER tax rate in Utah RESERVED for Utah residents.)
Then he “FIXES” his calculated Utah “residency” mis-issue by:
- PAYING Utah THE DIFFERENCE between the taxes he paid in Utah when he used the LOWER Utah resident rate AND THE TAXES HE SHOULD HAVE PAID at the higher Utah rate as a Massachusetts resident. NOW he is a Massachusetts resident for REAL this time! (You and I could well have been charged with Tax Fraud, but the Massachusetts Ballot Commission accepted it.)
So say he paid a million dollars in Utah when he paid at the lower Utah residents rate…but now that he is running for governor of Massachusetts he gets a revelation: “Hey, I was really a Massachusetts resident all along, not a Utah resident at all, stupid me! I should have paid the HIGHER rate for Utah non-residents, which is 5-million, duh!!” and so he writes Utah a check for the difference. (My figures are just for clarification, I don’t know how much MORE he paid or what the amounts were).
Here’s what Ed Conard, former Bain Capital Partner had to say in a MSNBC interview (Sunday July 15, 2012) on UP with Chris Hayes):
- (After Romney left Bain in 1999 to head Utah Olympics) a management Committee was running Bain to try and transition from Romney to a new structure.
Now that’s a well managed company. So well managed that when the CEO left they needed a management committee to take over. Didn’t you hear…about the “management committee” over at Apple after Steve Jobs died?
Yeah, Apple’s was hush hush – didn’t want to embarrass new CEO Tim Cook! And don’t believe in that “orderly succession plan” at Microsoft after Bill Gates, either. Those are not REAL business like Bain.
- Conard says Romney’s name was on the documents as the sole owner of Bain and…they had a very complicated set of negotiations that took about 2 years to unravel. (Yeah: Bermuda and Switzerland and Mars and God knows where.)
(Not so busy. He found the time for “social trips and business trips that brought me back to Massachusetts, board meetings, Thanksgiving and so forth…” MEANING? For someone who seems to have forgotten his passing acquaintance with the concept called “truth” I need to ask what so forth means?
But NEVER with his OWN company Bain, where he held 100-percent ownership, where legally, ON PAPER he was the CEO. He was involved with all these others but the one that paid him the 6-figure salary, with a Management Committee struggling through paperwork for 2 years, HE NEVER CONTACTED THEM in those 2 YEARS!
NOT even by phone. NO advice – NO updates. Nothing! He just turned his back and left them to muddle through 2 years of transition by themselves? Do you buy that? And what kind of PAPER CEO is that, anyway? Is THIS how you want to run America, Mr. Competent Businessman?
IN THE MEANTIME, Romney was earning the 6-figure salary from Bain (plus dividends?) in 2001 AND 2002 for what? Just for having his name on paper as CEO? I’d like a deal like that, wouldn’t you?
So he was NOT running the company? ARGUE that fact. But CAN YOU ARGUE THAT HE POCKETED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS by gutting companies and sending jobs overseas? He’s not the only one who does that, no. But do you feel sympathy for the person who bullies your child because other bullies are out there harassing other people’s kids?
Guess Romney knew back them that the issue of “outsourcing of jobs” would come up 12 years in the future during his run for President! So he stayed AWAY! Or did it have to do with residency?
Just tell us NOW, Mr. Prescient Romney, WHICH one of you wins the election in November – so we can tune out and go do other stuff – like sit on boards! Maybe Romney should also forget about Vice Presidential picks and appoint a “Management Committee.”
UNDENIABLE is this: Romney PROFITTED from the “outsourcing” by banking his 6-figure salary and other dividends. Did he give that money back. Did he say: “I’m sorry. I can’t accept millions of dollars because Americans had to lose their jobs for me to make so much money?”
He did not. So why then come now and pretend that you are “da great businessman” who will SAVE American jobs?
Because he cannot run on anything else…unless he wants to talk about Health Care reform? Or Olympic Bail-outs, like the one he DID NOT WANT DETROIT TO GET, but Salt Lake City could?
Republican strategist John Weaver, July 2012: “There is no whining in politics. Stop demanding an apology, release your tax returns.”
Alabama governor Robert Bentley, Republican tells ABC News, July 2012: he believes in “total transparency” and wants Romney to release his tax returns to show voters he has “nothing to hide.”
Romney released his 2010 tax documents and his estimated returns for 2011.
Why release Tax Returns?
According to the Washington Post:
Tax returns offer information not available on the financial disclosure forms that are legally required of candidates, including their charitable deductions and use of tax shelters.
Tax information could be especially revealing in the case of Mr. Romney and his extensive investment income, which may be why he has been reluctant to release it.
During his 1994 Senate race, Mr. Romney called on Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D) to release his tax returns and show Kennedy had nothing to hide”. Neither candidate released his tax information. Such secrecy will not stand for a presidential nominee.
The identity of a candidate’s bundlers is similarly important. Campaign finance laws limit individual contributions to a candidate to $2,500 per election ($5,000 if you include the primary and general election campaigns), but bundlers haul in tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars by tapping extensive donor networks.
Knowing to whom and for how much candidates are indebted is essential information, of which candidates and their advisers are exquisitely aware. Yet under current law the only bundlers whose identities candidates must disclose are registered lobbyists.
That information is useful but insufficient: A CEO who bundles $500,000 for a candidate can have as much influence as the company’s Washington lobbyist. Why should this knowledge be kept from voters?
Yes, WHY Governor Romney? Romney has made a HABIT out of secrecy, evasions, saying ONE THING one way, ANOTHER THING thataway. He erased his e-mails when he left as governor of Massachusetts. He left with computer hard drives from the governor’s office. Questions arise over his residency and taxes… HE:
- Did it to Gingrich
- Did it to Santorum
Now he’s whining and crying….
Like candidate Mitt Romney told candidate Newt Gingrich, Dec 2011: “This is, after all, politics. There is no whining in politics. You get in a political process and you fight hard and describe the differences between yourself and the other candidates.”
That was a flip…do we hear a flop?
Think of it…
Here is a “Flip-Flopping Right Wing Ideologue” (just quoting a TV pundit describing Mitt Romney) who appears to be the Republicans likely Heir…and you know, you KNOW, that many conservatives and Tea Partynistas are having a fit!
- Want to know how conservatives really feel?
Rick Santorum (who’s scheduled to meet with Romney May 04) still cannot bring himself to say outright that he supports Romney, dancing around the issue in a CNN interview last night.
- President George W. Bush made himself scarce when his dad, H.W. endorsed Romney. You got to hand it to W., he sticks to his guns…
So of course it’s already better…because they have a candidate they detest…and with reason, too.
Mitt Romney essentially declared VICTORY in the Republican Primary in New Hampshire last night (April 24)…even though there is still one candidate left in the race.
Imagine how you’d feel if YOU, as Newt Gingrich, watched Romney take the baton and fling it far over the finish line while you were still running!
Romney does appear to have the nomination sewn up. So he could have at least waited graciously for Gingrich to drop out or negotiated with him behind the scenes, BEFORE claiming victory. But Mitt Romney must be Mitt Romney. Muscle Gingrich out of the race. Crush the opponent with money, negative ads or a well-timed shove. Goodbye…
Gingrich is not feeling the love. He told ABC a couple of hours before Romney’s grand speech: “I think it’s a very substantial mistake for Governor Romney to be having, quote, ‘a general election’ speech…in New Hampshire. He’s the frontrunner but he’s not the nominee…I think it’s a little bit presumptuous. There’s a big difference between being the front-runner and being inevitable and I think he is mistaking the two.”
Gingrich will probably drop out under pressure – but, hey, let Republicans SORT their mess out.
- Meantime, Romney last night said people’s hopes and dreams have been diminished by false promises and weak leadership.
As opposed to George Bush who gave America STRONG leadership? So strong, in fact, the joke going around said Dick Cheney was the one running the show. The puppet master who reportedly elbowed out level-headed people like Colin Powell because Powell warned about foreign intervention: If you break it, you own it. Is Joe Biden running the show? If he is, we’re not hearing about it…so that at least is a plus for Obama!
Was there any hope MORE false than: “Mission Accomplished”? or has Romney forgotten? Is that mission accomplished – and just WHAT was the mission again, candidate Romney?
- Romney said: People are working harder for less.
OK Mr. Romney, I don’t know how many maids and housekeepers YOU have at all your houses. But let’s start with some of them. Charity, it’s said, begins at home – where the heart is! According to one online report, the Romney’s 2010 tax returns show his income was nearly 22 million, but he paid only 21-thousand-dollars in taxable wages for household help (to four women at ONE of the 3 homes they had) in 2010.
According to the source, the breakdown (rounded off): $5,000 for one woman, $9,000.00 another woman, $2,000.00 – third woman and $5,000.00 – fourth woman.
START the ball rolling by paying MORE. I’m not judging you, Mr. Romney. Maybe these workers worked part-time or Mrs. Romney cleaned the house herself? We speculate because the Romney campaign declined to clarify…
All that aside, HAS ROMNEY TOLD YOU HOW he’s going to ensure that YOU work harder for MORE? Be sure he explains THAT to your satisfaction before you vote!
- What else did he refer to? Single mom who feels heartbroken when she has to explain to her kids that she needs to take a second job…YES, indeed…like his wife. OH sorry, she’s NOT a single mom and I’ve already dealt with the “JOB” thing in a previous post: “Romney’s Back-Flip Flop on Work“. (You notice he did not use the term ‘work’?. He used job. Finally he gets it! But I’m sure he’ll tell you that his wife (with four helpers in one home) can sympathize with what we single moms who need 2 jobs go through.
And as for the mom and dad who never thought they’d be on food stamps — thank God Romney and Republicans DID NOT GET THEIR WAY to completely gut food stamp programs.
Just this month, Republicans pushed their BUDGET plan to CUT food stamps by $8 billion over the coming year and $34 billion over a decade. The average monthly benefit for a family of four is about $500…Democrats assailed the cuts, saying Republicans were targeting the poor while boosting the Pentagon budget above levels agreed to last summer.
Romney says he was successful in business…but he won’t also SAY he caused thousands of people to LOSE their jobs? That’s true too. Or does his Life Balance Sheet only show credits with NO debits?
He plans to get to know America’s families. He doesn’t KNOW you yet after spending much of his life in politics running for senator and governor and president? Introduce him to your gay partner and ask him why you don’t get to have the same rights he does – let him meet your illegal immigrant relative hiding in your house. Well, don’t…on second thought. Do offer him some Meat Loaf – press him to eat it. Watch him swallow. MAKE my day!!!
- Do we pay less at the pump, now?
Do we? I recall gas prices were very high under George Bush, about $5.00 a gallon when people parked their gas guzzling SUV’s and you could not EVEN TRADE IT IN? And his wife still had her Cadillacs, I presume…Back when Bush was hobnobbing with Saudi royals, his dear friends who sell us the oil?
- Easier to sell your home and buy a new one now?
It could have been, if Republicans had pushed for Oversight and REGULATED Wall Street and big banks. Republicans could have forced the issue. Then today we could say: They did try…let the records show. WHERE is their record?
- Only in America could his dad, who grew up poor, and never graduated college, pursue his dreams and be successful. Check…
And ONLY in America could a black, black man from Africa marry a white, white woman, and have a mixed race skinny little kid with a funny name…(divorced parents, raised by grandmother). Only in America could that kid drag his way up to be president. Mate…
No Mr. Romney, we are NOT stupid, though YOU keep thinking that we are!
- You will stop the unfairness of politicians giving taxpayer money to their friends businesses.
One word: HALLIBURTON. Does that ring a bell… Huge non-bid multi-million dollar contracts in Iraq? Dick Cheney…ting ting?
And above all, DON’T apologize to other nations for American wrongdoing. Not EVER. Not even when our soldiers go on killing sprees and brutally gun down innocent children. Just tell them to f— off.
Why is it that Republicans, who love women so much, refuse to accept that families do not always fit their definition of June Cleaver* Ville bliss?
*(June Cleaver: Character from the U.S TV Sitcom: Leave it to Beaver. June and her husband are often upheld as the archetype of the 1950’s suburban parents.)
Why do Republicans believe that family issues don’t apply to unmarried women — or others?
I decided to check the meaning of “Family”. Here’s the Merriam-Webster online dictionary’s Definition of FAMILY:
1: a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head : household
2a : a group of persons of common ancestry : clan b : a people or group of peoples regarded as deriving from a common stock : race
4: a group of things related by common characteristics: as a : a closely related series of elements or chemical compounds b : a group of soils with similar chemical and physical properties (as texture, pH, and mineral content) that comprise a category ranking above the series and below the subgroup in soil classification c : a group of related languages descended from a single ancestral language
5a : the basic unit in society traditionally consisting of two parents rearing their children; also : any of various social units differing from but regarded as equivalent to the traditional family <a single-parent family>b : spouse and children <want to spend more time with my family>
6a : a group of related plants or animals forming a category ranking above a genus and below an order and usually comprising several to many genera b in livestock breeding (1) : the descendants or line of a particular individual especially of some outstanding female (2): an identifiable strain within a breed
7: a set of curves or surfaces whose equations differ only in parameters
8: a unit of a crime syndicate (as the Mafia) operating within a geographical area.
Origin of the word FAMILY: late Middle English: from Latin familia ‘ household servants, household, family’, from famulus ‘servant’.
Neither Webster nor the Oxford dictionary mentions marriage as necessary to define a family.
REPUBLICANS, listen up! Family does not mean a married pair of heterosexuals with a HUSBAND and a WIFE and kids. It means a grouping of ANY of them. So where does your definition of family come from? The Bible? OK. But so does: Love thy neighbor, even though he is black or Hispanic!
I then checked some figures from the U.S CENSUS BUREAU. Unless Republicans think that gays somehow got into the Census database and corrupted the figures…?

Unmarried and Single Americans Week: Sept. 19 — 25, 2010
“National Singles Week” was started by the Buckeye Singles Council in Ohio in the 1980s to celebrate single life and recognize singles and their contributions to society. The week is now widely observed during the third full week of September (Sept. 19-25 in 2010) as “Unmarried and Single Americans Week,” an acknowledgment that many unmarried Americans do not identify with the word “single” because they are parents, have partners or are widowed. In this edition of Facts for Features, unmarried people include those who were never married, widowed, or divorced, unless otherwise noted.
Number of unmarried Americans 18 and older in 2009. This group comprised 43 percent of all U.S. residents 18 and older.
Percentage of unmarried Americans 18 and older who were women.
Percentage of unmarried Americans 18 and older who had never been married. Another 24 percent were divorced, and 15 percent were widowed.
Number of unmarried Americans 65 and older. These older Americans comprised 17 percent of all unmarried and single people 18 and older.
Number of unmarried men 18 and older for every 100 unmarried women in the United States.
Number of households maintained by unmarried men or women. These households comprised 45 percent of households nationwide.

Number of unmarried-partner households in 2008. Of this number, 565,000 were same-sex.
Those figures are changing…TRENDING UPWARDS for the most part, as shown from the following Census Figures for 2011.
Unmarried and Single Americans Week Sept. 18-24, 2011
Number of unmarried people in America 18 and older in 2010. This group comprised 43.6 percent of all U.S. residents 18 and older.
Number of households maintained by unmarried men or women. These households comprised 45 percent of households nationwide.

Percentage of opposite-sex, unmarried-partner households that included at least one biological child of either partner.
Number of unmarried-partner households in 2009. Of this number, 581,300 were same-sex households.
Obviously Republicans have REJECTED these “non-traditional” families as unworthy sinners who do not conform and measure up to their lofty goals of marriages like the Romney’s.
They don’t SEE similar stability in the Obama’s marriage…they don’t SEE values and morals in the Obama marriage. When they look at single moms and dads struggling to raise their kids or take care of parents/loved ones or when they see gay couples or any other arrangement that is not their ideal, THEY DISMISS YOU AS A BLIGHT ON THEIR ROSY UTOPIAN HOME-LIFE FAMILY SCENARIO.
They are rejecting and have always rejected YOU as untouchable!
Are you going to vote for them?
Gingrich denies he callously told his sick wife in her hospital room while recovering from cancer treatments that he would be divorcing her. (Of course that is not true, it’s a rotten rumor. President Obama is a Muslim – now THAT is fact).
Gingrich’s first set of kids are no longer his family, I take it? Ah, never mind, he has repented. Took a trip to the Middle East, walked down the Jericho Road, saw a light…and voila! Mea culpa…
When a Republicans takes multiple wives, like Newt Gingrich, married 3 times, two discarded wives – or is that discarded families, HE IS FIT TO BE PRESIDENT! Gingrich married his second wife 6 months after his divorce from wife number one. Married his 3rd wife 4 months after divorce from wife number two. Can you keep up?
(That 40-thousand-dollars a day it’s costing you, the taxpayer to provide Secret Service protection for Gingrich, could that perhaps keep several families from losing their homes?
If a family facing bankruptcy got 40-thousand-dollars to take to the bank, would that help? Help you? Think of how many days he’s been getting protection and ask yourself…? Well, choose your question. There are many…)
I cannot be hearing republicans like Newt Gingrich clearly.
Are they/is he really saying that Americans would not, could not, SHOULD not…NOT…let Democrats control The House, Senate and White House? I’m sure that isn’t what Newt is preaching. Because I checked some election results for the House and Senate:

Somebody needs to remind Newt Gingrich of his party’s history…
When Newt comes up for air, please take him back in time, gently, and reassure him that we need NOT go back millions of years, to when giant lizards actually ruled the Earth…or the Ark, or whatever! 2002 will do!
Republicans controlled THE WHITE HOUSE, THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES not once, but twice IN A ROW! In 2002 and 2004, back when G.W. was brimming with Social Capital…and banks actually HAD capital!
Did you hear Newt decrying, back then, how lamentable that was? Not him! But today! Here he is bombarding us with “elitist” thinking. (By their own definition!) The thinking that HE/THEY/REPUBLICANS can; and you, them, DEMOCRATS…can’t? Thinking they’re better than us? Elitist to their very core!
So of course Newt has to go around moaning that it would really be just too, too unbearable a burden…unthinkable, preposterous even! that Democrats could end up controlling the White House and both houses of Congress!
Gingrich spent nearly 6-years as House Speaker. Republicans controlled BOTH houses of Congress, but a Democratic President, Bill Clinton, managed to get things done. Clinton left a surplus…NOT a financial meltdown!
However, today, Gingrich now wants us to believe that Americans, armed with nothing but ballot papers, are going to singlehandedly destroy the republic!
Back then, (2002) as The New York Times put it:
Republicans Regain the Senate and Increase House Majority…
The Republicans last night seized full control of Congress by retaking the Senate…the Republicans now have control of the White House, Senate and the House of Representatives..
The outcome is a break with historic patterns, in which the party that controls the White House almost invariably loses seats in midterm Congressional elections.
Bush mounted a very aggressive campaign in the final days, traveling to 15 states since Thursday, and raising by one count $142 million for his party since the campaign season began
“Republicans swept to victory in the United States Senate last night, assuring Republican control of the White House and Congress for the next two years, and thrusting President Bush into a commanding position for his legislative agenda..
The Republican Party also maintained — and possibly solidified — its hold on the House, in an election that amounted to a major drubbing for the Democratic Party.
The results mean that a single party, the Republicans, will once again control both houses of Congress and the White House”
According to the N. Y. Times, Democrats: “held periodic news conferences…complaining about episodes of voting irregularities”.
