Quick Draw Romney – ow, ow!! Get Down!!!

Oopsy! I put my foot in my mouth – again!!!

Poor Mitt Romney – born with TWO silver feet in his mouth!!!

Rushing in where Angels fear to tread…

Shooting first and aiming later…

Romney is proving AGAIN how lacking he is on Foreign Policy. Mitt Romney is the kind of guy who will send you a blue set of booties soon as he learns you are in labor – without waiting to learn the sex of the baby! No wonder he’s gone off and shot himself in the foot – AGAIN!

And why not? He’s Mitt Romney. IN HIS MIND Romney thinks he is the ANTI Henry Kissinger of foreign policy. Kissinger, a German Jew, was a former U.S. National Security Advisor and Secretary of State (1969-1977) under Republican presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Kissinger pioneered the policy of detente with the Soviet Union. He orchestrated the opening of relations with China. Kissinger negotiated the Peace Accords in Paris, France that ended American involvement in the Vietnam War. Instead of missiles, Kissinger used the CIA, covert operations and coups to destabilize governments. IF you HAVE do it, I prefer the covert way.

Romney went to England and offended the Brits. Didn’t get it. He went to Israel and offended Palestinians and Muslims. Didn’t get it either. Now he’s offending even his fellow Republicans. Some of them are criticizing Romney for making an inflammatory statement BEFORE he has all the facts…while others are just IGNORING him and making their own non-inflammatory statements.

Romney in Britain, July 2012. U.S. number one ally didn’t give Romney much to tout on his Presidential application under: Foreign Policy Experience.

Can you imagine if ROMNEY was president. He’d have immediately launched missiles against Libya without even knowing WHERE to aim them.

Romney learns that demonstrators in Egypt are storming the embassy in Cairo Tuesday, (9/11/2012). Some campaign aide no doubt informs Romney that the U.S Embassy in Egypt is “apologizing” for something and without checking his facts, he turns and starts shooting. Blanks!

Romney’s argument goes like this. The staffers IN the U.S. embassy are under attack. There is an angry mob outside the embassy, chanting, scaling the walls and burning the U.S. flag. So the embassy staff should take a hard line. Stand on principle (Romney changes HIS daily), defy the protesters and send out this Tweet: “I will defend free speech and to hell with you!”

THAT’s how Romney and some of his cronies wanted the embassy and the U.S. to react. The embassy staffers, (being a lot smarter than Mitt Romney and those hard-line Republicans), since it is their lives at stake and NOT Romney’s, decide that they are outnumbered, so they will play it cool and NOT pour gas on that fire!

Protesters storm U.S. embassy grounds, in Cairo, Egypt.

Somebody should ASK Romney: Say you are holed up in your Lake Winnipesaukee  summer mansion in New Hampshire with your sons and grand-kids. Some disgruntled ex-employees – from a company that Romney’s firm Bain Capital took over and fired – show up threatening violence. They are upset over a film they saw showing how Bain took over their old employer, gutted the company, fired workers here, shipped jobs overseas and made millions in profits. Would Romney tell these trigger-happy, on-the-edge ticking time bombs to:

(a) Go to hell, this is how capitalism works, get over it…OR

(b) Wave a white flag and try to see how you can work with them to address their grievances, maybe find them jobs at Bain?

Mitt Romney

Based on Romney’s reaction, he would do (a). But we know that if it was his family, he would NOT stand on principles, would he? He would choose option (b) just like the embassy did! Like the rest of us would do when it’s OUR butts on the line!

See the problem with Mitt Romney? Unless of course he would REALLY stand on principle and put his family’s life in jeopardy?…which is equally or even MORE troubling!

If I was Mitt Romney, I’d have CALLED the White House and talked (or tried to talk) to President Obama. I’d say: “Mr. President, I just heard about a serious situation over in the Middle East. Is there anything you can tell me about that? Anything I can do?”

Heck NO. Romney sees this as an opportunity to SHORE UP his sagging ratings, to SHOW how TOUGH he is on NOTHING, to show “Conservatives” that  yes, he can indeed be FEISTY (even when there is NO NEED to BE feisty) and latches onto the TREE – forgetting about the FOREST!!!

Quick Draw Romney. “Shoot first, aim later!”

I’m supposing President Obama would be pleased at this approach. He may tell Mr. Romney, we don’t have all the details yet, but…share whatever he CAN. The President might arrange for some follow up as details unfold.  Or he could shut Romney out.

THEN, Romney could be a statesman and tell the press: I just called the White House and talked to President Obama and here is what he told me…we don’t have all the details yet, but he promised to let me know OR the President refused to give me any information…or even to talk to me.

See the difference?

Quick Draw Romney

But NO. This is one of the RARE occasions when Mitt Romney just has to BE himself – and whenever he IS himself, it is not pretty!

ALL he sees is an opening to posture and show how tough he is on the world stage so he grabs the ball and runs blindly with it expecting a touchdown only to find he’s run the ball into the other teams end zone/territory! Way to go Mr. Romney! Score 6 points for Obama, Romney Zero.

Romney tried to portray the President as weak on foreign policy. Yeah, two warships are heading to that area and a team of rapid response marines are on site.

While Romney was sputtering in outrage over Obama’s stance, wondering why the U.S. was not already battering Libya…Libyans were expressing their outrage, holding signs in support of America (how often do you see that in the Arab world?) and both the Libyan government and citizens were pledging to work with America to get to the bottom of the attacks and maintain order. (Or so they claim).

Embassy burning, Benghazi, Libya

So what set Romney off? The US Embassy in Cairo, Egypt did what embassies do when they spot trouble…diffuse tension so we don’t fight everybody. The Cairo embassy tried to pour water on the  fire by criticizing and distancing itself and America from Florida pastor Terry Jones. The extremist right wing Christian fundamentalist NUT is promoting a film meant to deliberately rile Muslims. And of course, some Muslims took the bait! If they don’t react, this jerk does not win…

Most Americans don’t support that loony pastor and his nonsense and the embassy was RIGHT to distance and disassociate themselves from this Christian extremism. Plus the statement came from the embassy, NOT the White House – or so the government says.

Romney however, thinks the White house is apologizing TO the demonstrators for attacking the embassy – DOES THAT MAKE SENSE TO YOU? Well it makes sense to Mitt Romney and thus he takes his John Lobbs and stuffs both of them into his mouth! (I just assume he had 2-thousand-dollars worth of loafers in his mouth!)

President Obama

President Obama: “There’s a broader lesson to be learned here, and, you know, Governor Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later…as president, one of the things I’ve learned is you can’t do that. It’s important for you to make sure that the statements you make are backed up by the facts, and that you thought through the ramifications before you make them.”

Of course there IS a broader lesson to be learned here:

  • This is a CLEAR example of the CONTRASTS between Romney and Obama and the TYPE of leadership you want in the White House.
  • Do you want “Quick Draw Romney” who will REACT first and ASK QUESTIONS LATER? (Remember when Romney criticized Obama for NOT bombing Iran like the Israelis wanted – WHILE the Israeli leader and  President Obama were discussing the matter at the White House?)
  • Do you want HARD-LINE (what I call the “Go to Hell – F— you” Republican attitude OR do you want a more conciliatory approach?

Henry Kissinger. Israel gave him their highest Award (President’s Medal) in March, 2012.

  • Do you believe America should take a Hard Line in the Middle East or be friendly with ALL the countries where possible?
  • Do you want someone who will annoy the Russians and the Chinese, try to ride roughshod over them and see how far America gets (since these two countries will just lie down and roll over when faced with Republican arrogance) OR do you want someone who will try to get concessions?
  • OR maybe you see past what fellow Republicans describe as Mitt Romney’s: “Pre-existing Political Calculation” for what it is?

By Tuesday afternoon, the violence spreads to Libya where 4 Americans including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, would later die in the U.S. consulate compound in Benghazi, Libya’s second largest city. Now the unrest has spread to Yemen.

This is NOT a situation for political bickering. This is a time for unity. Obama or Romney – ONE of them is going to be the next president. But until voters decide who will take over in January 2013, America has only ONE commander-in-chief…and that is not Mitt Romney.

Sam Bacile is reportedly in hiding – why? Don’t let others pay the price. Man up…

The provocative film that’s reportedly responsible for sparking anti U.S. protests in Libya and Egypt:“Innocence of Muslims” is reportedly made by Sam Bacile, a so-called Israeli filmaker living in California. But there appear to be many doubts about Bacile…and WHO he is.

A defiant Bacile says Islam is a cancer and his film is intended as a provocative political statement condemning Islam.

More than 100 Jewish donors chipped in to make the 5-million-dollar film…which claims Muhammad is a fraud.

WHY DOES RELIGION START SO MANY WARS — AND SPAWN SO MUCH HATE?

Pentagon’s 143-million-dollar White Elephants.

Did you catch that story about those Air Force Fighter Jets, the Stealth F-22 Raptors, that pilots are afraid to fly…?

The F-22 Raptor is America’s most expensive fighter jet!

F-22 Raptors. Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii (2007)

Yet, at 143-million-dollars each, those advanced Lockheed engineering marvels are sitting idly…because pilots (Air Force says some pilots) are too worried to get in and FLY them. Pilots are asking NOT to fly the next-generation fighters or to be reassigned…

Seems these planes have a “mysterious oxygen system problem” the Air Force hasn’t been able to solve despite years of investigation.

According to the ABC News report: “For years the F-22 has been plagued with an extremely rare, but potentially deadly problem in which its pilots experience what the Air Force describes as “hypoxia-like symptoms” in mid-air. Hypoxia is caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain and can be characterized by dizziness, confusion, poor judgment and, eventually, loss of consciousness”.

One F-22 pilot apparently became so disoriented that his plane dropped down and skimmed treetops before the pilot was able to recover and head back to base.
F-22 instructor pilot Jeff Haney died in an Alaska crash in 2010 after a critical malfunction cut off his oxygen completely in mid-air. The Air Force denies any relation to hypoxia but says it does not know what originally caused that malfunction.

In 2011 the Air Force grounded the entire fleet of F-22s…more than 180 planes…for nearly five months.

The planes cost about 79-billion-dollars! That’s $79, 000,000,000.00. (one billion = one thousand million.)

That’s what ONE (1) Billion Dollars…looks like! The Air Force’s Stealth F-22 Raptors cost 79 billion!

  • In April 2011, when the government nearly Shut Down over budget negotiations, House Republicans, led by John Boehner, were determined to fully fund the Pentagon while negotiators were fighting over how deep to cut domestic programs and government agencies. Boehner also vowed to pass the measure despite strong opposition from President Obama and Democrats.
  • Republican Paul Ryan’s Budget, supported by Boehner, cuts all domestic discretionary spending programs other than defense nearly in half.
  • The Pentagon’s budget is about 530 BILLION dollars.

Contractor Lockheed Martin was awarded a defense contract of nearly 25-million for various F-22 related projects – including helping find the cause of the oxygen issue. John Boehner must have been asleep when THAT one slipped by!

A Lockheed Martin building. Bethesda, Maryland

In other words, The Pentagon is paying the manufacturer to find the problem. I guess the Air Force designed the Raptor then gave it to Lockheed Martin who then followed those instructions to a T?

Imagine buying an I-Pod, discovering it doesn’t work – then having to PAY Apple so Apple can find out why it’s product does not work!

Republicans have NO compunction to cut Food Stamps, Health Care, Medicaid, Medicare, Subsidized Housing, Insurance for Children (CHIP) and Unemployment Benefits. Yet they support and DEFEND building these $143 million-dollar white elephants and THEN tell YOU, Americans, that paying for health care for YOU is TOO expensive?

You know…or should know…that Republicans absolutely refuse, RE-FUSE! to put the military budget on the chopping block.

Pentagon

• Nobody is telling Republicans to STOP the Pentagon from developing new or more sophisticated weapons.

• Nobody is suggesting that the Pentagon shuts down and merges with Homeland Security!

• NOBODY (I hope) wants the military go without. But everybody in America knows …or SHOULD know…that the Pentagon is a bottomless pool of waste and mismanagement.

Well, everybody except Republicans.

600-dollar toilet seats? Nearly one-and-a-half MILLION travel credit cards – more than 200-thousand purchase cards? I suspect cleaners at the Pentagon probably have credit cards too…so they can buy 400-dollar mops!

So, let Republicans explain HOW it comes to pass that: America’s most advanced and expensive fighter jets are sitting idle because pilots refuse to fly them. Not ONE of the $143 million-dollar planes has ever been used in combat.

Not ONE of these super-sophisticated fighter jets saw combat in Iraq OR Afghanistan…or even the no-fly zone over Libya last year.

The Pentagon originally ordered hundreds more of the planes from Lockheed Martin,

Fighter pilot Jeff Haney. Died in F-22 crash in Alaska (2010)

But in 2009 critics of the program pressured Congress to cancel more funding for the F-22s.

The Air Force has glowingly described the F-22 as the future of American air dominance. But critics (including John McCain and President Obama) call the F-22 Raptor a waste of money in today’s combat environment and a danger to its own pilots.

No Room At The Inn…for Gaddafi!

We are coming across as such an angry nation…populated with petulant, uncivil people.

We look at demonstrators in other places burning flags and chanting anti-American slogans, and we don’t even understand WHY. Perhaps we don’t need to, because NOW, we’re beginning to act just like them.

Democracy means you don’t need to agree with or like a person to ensure that that person’s rights are upheld. It’s hard. But that’s the strength of Democracy!

Two heads of state, who are here to attend the U.N. General Assembly meeting, are being denied a place to stay or hold their events.

These two leaders are our guests. This is where the U.N. building is. If you don’t want them to come here, throw the U.N. Headquarters out of America – or arrange to change those leaders!

Until then, whenever they come to the U.N. where they have a right to be by agreement, they need to be treated as guests. They are heads of state…even though you may NOT like their head…or their state!

How would we/you feel if our leaders go overseas and can’t find a place to stay – or hold an event? Come on America, I expect better from you.

Should these countries change their leaders just because WE don’t like them?

Yes, you can protest when they come to town. That’s your right. But come on!

What did you achieve? You vented and you felt good – now what? You just dissed and angered millions of people who support and love their leaders, whether you think they’re vile or not!

Wouldn’t it have been better to treat them with civility and show the world that Americans are different, forgiving, respectful, nice…?

Did we not marvel at the Amish after than horrific shooting in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County (2006)? That community lost five kids, but they embraced the family of the shooter.

That was big news – to us – because we would NOT have been so forgiving. Being the good Christians we are, we’d have been out there agitating to get the family thrown out of their home and probably lynched, too! The Amish lesson did not last long!

We embrace anger and vengence. We must always be reading testimonials in court about our grief and anger over the murder of a loved one. We must call the murderer a thug, an animal, a monster who should rot in jail or hell…

And we are supposed to be so religious, such a Jesus-loving nation! But we don’t act religious, unless we’re ranting against abortion or gays! That’s where our religion comes in!

Leaders who come here to the U.N. can at least get a place to stay and somewhere to meet up with their friends. That is courtesy, America. It’s not love.

Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi thought he could stay at The Pierre Hotel on Fifth Avenue, but it had a change of heart when other guests paying large amounts for their rooms apparently didn’t want him there.

Iranian President President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad found a hotel to stay.

But two New York events halls rejected the Iranian U.N. delegation’s reservations for a hall to hold a banquet for Ahmadinejad on Friday (Sept. 25, 2009). The Helmsley Hotel and Gotham Hall also turned down the Iranians, saying the venue refused to be a platform for propaganda.

Could they not come up with a better reason, at least? Propaganda? If they’re anti-propaganda, there’s a whole host of companies they should not deal with, including some that run unauthorized tests on poor children overseas!

However, the Iranians did find a venue to hold their banquet at Essex House Hotel. But the hotel came under intense pressure to cancel the reservation…and they did!

Former Ambassador Mark Wallace (coached Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin for interviews and debates) heads the organization United Against Nuclear Iran. He’s spearheading U.S. boycott efforts against Iran and wants Essex House to cancel the event.

Wallace wrote to the general manager of the Essex House, calling on them to: clarify and reconsider its decision to host the banquet and address and instead decline to provide such a venue for President Ahmadinejad

By doing business with the Iranian government the Essex House is accepting blood money from a regime that brutally suppresses its own people and that is a danger to global security”.

Really? Iran is a danger to global security. Unlike Say Russia or China, neither of which suppresses its people…or has an army…or nuclear weapons!? You really think Iran is more of a threat to the U.S. than Russia?

Will you be out there demanding that Putin or Russian President Dmitry Medvedev be thrown out of Camp David? Did you see him sitting next to President Obama…smiling…at us? We are such fools!

(By the way, who got together and decided that only some nations can have nuclear weapons, but others can’t?)

Shouldn’t we simply be making sure that our weapons work, so that if anybody was foolish enough to try something we’d annihilate them?

Wouldn’t the world be a better place if most countries just minded their own business?

We’ve been in bed with many thugs in Haiti, Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia. We’ve traded, colluded and raises our glasses with leaders who were dictators and murderers…because it suited us!

In our backyard, Rafael Trujillo, Dominican Republic. His tyranny is considered one of the bloodiest of the 20th century. He attacked the Haitian border and killed (an estimated 20-30 thousand) fleeing Haitians. But he was anti-communist and anti-Castro, so we looked the other way.

Haiti, not to be outdone, came up with François “Papa Doc” Duvalier – the one who made himself President for Life. Duvalier had his own private militia known as Tonton Macoutes.

it’s estimated that he, too, killed some 30-thousand Haitians. They braved the Atlantic in rickety boats to escape Tyranny. But Duvalier, too, was anti-communist and anti-Castro, so we looked the other way.

You get the picture – I don’t need to talk about Saddam Hussein or the Congo’s Mobutu Sésé Seko…and the many others!

I guess there was no reason to protest because these dictators were killing their people…and other groups they did not like – they were NOT killing Americans.

I’m NOT blaming America, though. Countries do what countries need to do. I just want us to understand that this also applies to other nations too!

This world will never have peace…long as us humans live in it! Or at least, long as we continue with our hypocrisy – on race, on trade, on politics, on sex, on everything!
