MARCO – NO POLO

Republicans are ALWAYS trying to negate the votes of SOMEBODY they DO NOT LIKE…

They’ve done it for decades to black people, Asians, Hispanics – especially poor, disenfranchised urban minorities who vote Democrat. So it pleases me greatly to see them trying to do it to their OWN people NOW.

My question is: WHY is the GOP Establishment trying to negate the vote of their own republican voters?

GOP

Self Explanatory

They’re focusing on Trump, instead of focusing on the people voting FOR Trump!

It’s no wonder these disenfranchised republicans are angry. The GOP “establishment” is STILL not getting it. These voters who are supporting Trump LIKE what Trump is saying and whatever it is that they think Trump stands for.

But the clueless GOP “Establishment” just announced that the GOP is going to pour millions into a new super PAC  – The “Our Principles” (snigger) PAC – to derail Trump. Guess who is going to run it? Tim Miller, the former communications director for the Jeb Bush campaign. So we already KNOW how successful that will be!

Trump

Donald Trump

But to think, that after all these people have voted, and spoken, the GOP is planning to derail the person they voted for! Well THAT will go down well. I can already see these Trump supporters rushing to vote for whomever the “establishment” decides to choose for them!

Meantime…

I cannot STAND  Marco Rubio! I call him Marco No Polo!

Why, you ask?

Because  point number one, he is UNGRATEFUL:

Marco Rubio could have told the Republican “Establishment” :

“Yes, I know you want me to run as your candidate for President…to be the republican party’s nominee for 2016. But I have to say No. It’s not that I don’t want to run, but I’d be running against my friend and mentor Jeb Bush. I was his protege and I don’t feel right going up against him. I am still young. In 4 years I’ll be 48 and in 8 years I’ll be 52, still young enough to run for president. Plus as a 2-term Senator with no executive experience, if Jeb wins, I can get a position in his administration which will broaden my experience and build my credentials.”

Rubio

Should have dome a LOT more thinking, No Polo.

Then, Rubio would come out smelling like an angel (however angels smell) and Rubio would have the eternal devotion and support of the Bush family and their backers/supporters/political machine so that when he did make a run, he’d be very well-positioned indeed!

But no, blinded by equally blind ambition, Rubio rushes ahead, and competes with Bush to be “the” Establishment candidate; then while professing LOVE for his mentor, he turns around and attacks poor Jeb, effectively derailing Bush’s stuttering campaign and earning the wrath (eternal) of the Bush family and their supporters.

Yep, I don’t think the Bush family loves Marco very much…and neither do I or the voters in Florida!

Bush family

We love Marco Rubio! Join us for Thanksgiving 2016…NOT!

Point number 2: His position on Immigration.

You can go back in time and read posts I did when Marco, NO Polo, was part of the Gang Of Eight Congressmen working on Immigration Reform. But the moment, nah, the nano-second Rubio decided that making a run for President was in his future, he did a 180-degree.

Now he has the AUDACITY to insist that HE will END President Obama’s Executive Order on Immigration called DACA: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It allows the kids of undocumented immigrants in the USA to get a Social Security number and work permit…that they renew about every 2-years. The majority of these young immigrants are Hispanic, like Rubio. Many entered with their parents 10, 15 years ago when they were toddlers. However, Marco now says, unequivocally, that he will end DACA – that DACA is unconstitutional.

How about the U.S. ENDING the concept that as soon as an ILLEGAL Cuban IMMIGRANT touches U.S. soil he or she is GUARANTEED asylum. THAT needs to end, Rubio?!

Cuban refugees

See Reuters article: Time to end special privileges for Cuban immigrantshttp://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2015/01/05/time-to-end-special-privileges-for-cuban-immigrants/

And finally, I dislike Rubio for his plasticity, his programmed responses that make me see him as a younger version of Mitt Romney. HE is Romney 2-point-0!

So go ahead Rubio, hire someone to break Trump’s knees so you can get the nomination…

Apparently when Rubio speaks at debates and Town Halls and other gatherings, the world watches and hears him, but Trump has apparently put a 6-month delay on U.S. TV’s, so voters are NOT hearing Rubio, they can only hear Trump….and THAT’s why they’re not voting for Rubio.

Naturally, voters just LOOOVE what Rubio is saying, they support all his policies wholeheartedly, they just Looove the fact that he is the “Establishment” candidate especially as those people voting for Trump Looove the ESTABLISHMENT SO MUCH…

Trump great

Eat your hat out GOP Establishment!

But that Donald Trump, he is just STANDING in Rubio’s way – Rubio’s anointed way. How dare Trump!

And if Beyonce or Lady Gaga go away, I will get a recording contract. Yep, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, heck you too, Sam Smith – just go away so people can buy those records I will make – soon as you go away!

Oh, and Rubio – any voters you chased from Trump went to Ted Cruz…ha ha! HA!!!

Hey Marco, if the people won’t follow…?

Kamikaze Republicans

stubbornelephSix GOP senators, including Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and 62 Republican members of the House, led by Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., have signed letters calling on congressional leaders to use that budget debate to de-fund the president’s order.

Formally legalizing millions of undocumented immigrants requires federal workers to spend time and money on the process, and these Republicans want to craft budget bills that expressly forbid money being used to implement the president’s order.

From: USA Today

I think some Haitians put a Voodoo curse on Republicans – and serve them right too, for allowing Cubans to enter the country as soon as they reach land – and sending the Haitians back!

Oopsy! I put my foot in my mouth - again!!! AGAIN?

Oopsy! I put my foot in my mouth – again!!!
AGAIN?

If NOT a curse, then HOW do we account for the foot-in-your-mouth STUPIDITY of the GOP? The constant drumbeat to alienate and annoy a growing demographic that is exploding with consumer power and political influence?

WHY would Republicans even WANT to derail the President’s Executive Immigration Order? If I was a Republican (and very happy  I am NOT, thank you!), I’d rant and rave, yes, and shout about the “abuse of Presidential power”, but I would NOT – repeat would NOT, son…overturn, over-rule, derail or try in ANY way to nullify the President’s Immigration Order – WITHOUT offering something of my own. But what do I know, non-Tea Party, er…coffee-drinker that I am?

HERE’S WHY the President needs to act:Anti-Immigration Tea Party ProtestAnti-immigration

The Comprehensive Enforcement and Immigration Reform Act of 2005 (proposed by Senators John Cornyn and Jon Kyl, dead on arrival by Republicans who hold MAJORITY in Senate.

– The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 (Senator Arlen Specter) passed in the Senate in May 2006 – KILLED in the Republican controlled House!

– The Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy Act of 2007 (a House version – it DIED too!) Anyone recalls “cloture”? Senate NEVER voted on bill! The DREAM Act: IT too is DEAD on arrival!

– The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 ( Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007) – derailed by Republicans.

– The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 (Sen. Charles Schumer, co-sponsored by other “Gang of Eight” members). Passes Senate June 2013. DIES in House – Republican Speaker John Boehner REFUSES to bring bill to House floor for a vote.

Apparently NOT!

Apparently NOT!

Republicans have SUCCESSFULLY blocked Immigration Reform since 2007. First, they got their base to flood Congress with phone calls and deployed massive lobbying. That worked.

Then they threatened to overthrow fellow Republican House Speaker John Boehner if he so much as SAID the words: Immigration Reform. That worked, too…BUT!

Immigration Activists got smart. Groups pushing for Reform organized, got the big money, got the (champion of Republicans for no-regulation & cutting taxes) U.S. Chamber of Commerce behind them; got the (bastion of Republican voters for values) The National Association of Evangelicals behind them…and came up with a concerted push-back of their own.

Immigration Reform Rally, Boston 2013

Add to this the power of the Hispanic vote (and the black and Immigrant vote) and the FIRST SHOT that was sent across the Democrat’s bow in the 2014 Mid-Terms. THAT was enough to get the President to take action – the SAME action that he could not take before!

Republicans KNOW they needed to bluster, scream and threaten as LOUDLY as they could BEFORE the President acted, to again cow Democrats into doing nothing, which suited the GOP just fine. Doing NOTHING, a Republican pastime, kept the Republican base happy; left Democrats holding the bag for the “nothing” that happened; contributed to a demoralized, disenchanted Democrat base and translated to fewer votes and lost seats in Congress and state Capitols.

Republicans were licking their chops…when suddenly, they lost their bone!  Now, they have to come up with a new playbook. Just as they started picking up some Hispanic votes by blaming Obama for NO reform…the President lobbed a back-hand into their court. Ace Obama. Your move GOP?

What CAN they do now? jack in box

If they DARE to repeal any Executive Action, now they will alienate Hispanics and other immigrants for good.

If they even hint that they will repeal any action during the 2016 Presidential race, then they run the risk of alienating Hispanic and immigrant voters.

If they DON’T, then they alienate their base.

If Republicans shut the government down over Immigration Reform, Americans will get angry.

If the Tea Party Ted Cruz faction INSISTS on shutting the government down, AGAIN, this time over Immigration Reform…some Republicans will not go along and this could get ugly. Oh golly!

If they sue the president, they will look stupid!!!

If they try to impeach, they have NO legal basis and will look even MORE stupid and petty. Plus, to blacks, that will really cement the antipathy, at a time the GOP is pretending to “reach out” to black voters…!

Ooohh — it’s NOT good to be Republican right now!

Republican strategy

YES We CAN – Reform Immigration NOW!

Hey Republicans — President Obama today (6/30/2014) just threw down the Immigration gauntlet…slapped the GOP with a glove…and called them OUT!

Yes…yes, yeesss! (Excuse me! I’m having a shampoo commercial/Herbal Essences moment, aka – a when Harry met Sally moment.) Meanwhile, the Tea Party and it’s splinter group, the Republicans, are having major and frequent Maalox moments…

Anti-Immigration Tea Party Protest tea party sign

Tea party supporters are practically FOAMING at the mouth…and spewing vitriol and hate. EXAMPLE…

I left this comment on the Chicago Tribune website (yesterday) June 29, 2014.

THE Executive Order 22-million shadow immigrants are waiting for…

THE Executive Order 50-thousand young U.S. born Hispanics who turn 18 every MONTH – (plus thousands MORE from other immigrant groups) are waiting for…

Rallying cry for Immigrant Voters: Legalize my relatives NOW!!!

I BELIEVE that cowardly republicans should bring the Immigration Bill to the floor of the House for a vote.

I also BELIEVE that these 50-thousand young U.S. born Hispanics who turn 18 every MONTH and the thousands MORE from other immigrant groups who have mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents who are undocumented – should IMMEDIATELY register to vote on behalf of their loved ones.

Vote, vote, vote – remember the power of the ballot.

If any Congressman is BLOCKING Immigration Reform, young immigrant voters need to MAKE THEIR VOICE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR.

Legalize my relative NOW…

Immigration-rights activists stage a ral

HERE IS HOW ONE TEA PARTY “CHRISTIAN” RESPONDED:

Fucking freeloading unasimilating non English speaking uneducated disrespectful and American hating pieces of shit. Not just republicans who hate the illegals. Just as many democrats do as well, except they lie and tell you something else. Illegal is illegal is still. Illegal.

And they wonder WHY the majority of Hispanics, Asians, other immigrants and blacks hate them right back — and DON’T vote for them!

All this month I’ve been suggesting, hinting, begging President Obama…

It is time for DAFFA: Deferred Action for Families…of Dreamers.

I mean he IS signing Executive Orders against gay/transgender workplace discrimination…and to ease student debt, so I asked: BUT I DON’T SEE YOU SIGNING AN ORDER FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM. Why?

TODAY finally…finally, finally…AN answer!!!Obama Imig Reform

Thank you.

Please take Executive Action to at least legalize the families of Dreamers and make DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) PERMANENT. Immigration activists, business leaders, the national Association of Evangelicals, other religious groups, law enforcement AND the MAJORITY of Americans (unlike the Tea Party extremists) realize that:

  • This status quo of 22-million people living anonymously in the shadows – living under the radar, unknown, unchecked – is NOT acceptable and cannot be allowed to continue.
  • That we cannot have this influx of kids crossing the border. More than 50-thousand children since October 2013. Some are as young as 2-years old, crossing the border, often alone. Come on! This is a humanitarian crisis. What if these were 2-year-old American kids crossing into Mexico, alone, heading to Central America?
  • It should NOT take 10-years for LEGAL immigrants to wait to come to America.
  • The Immigration system overall NEEDS to be fixed – illegal immigration is just ONE part of an unworkable, unwieldy BROKEN system.

Reform Immigration Now!Imagine rounding up, arresting, detaining and deporting 22-million people…or having them self-deport a la Mitt Romney. Many of these undocumented immigrants also have U.S. born kids who are U.S citizens.

Employers, farmers agree that Americans WILL NOT do the jobs (picking lettuce, strawberries, watermelons, janitorial work, child and elderly care, cooking, janitorial, picking factory orders etc.) that many undocumented people do.

Employers have tried to get Americans to do these jobs, but they come on day one and by day two DO NOT SHOW UP.  According to newspaper reports…In 2011, after the Georgia legislature led by Republican Governor Nathan Deal passed a tough immigration bill, Hispanic farm workers fled the state.

Deal decided to use prisoners to pick field crops but many inmates walked off the job early. Farmers in Georgia lost millions of dollars because crops that rotted in the field before they could be harvested. Not even PRISONERS want to do these jobs! It is apparently more cushy in the jail than in the fields. Undocumented Immigrants though are classified as lazy by Republicans!

Immigration Reform Rally, Boston 2013The Tea Party wants to deport and demonize the Dream Kids who were raised here from babies and toddlers and educated in America; to send them back, instead of letting them become the doctors, lawyers, teachers, nurses and scientists we need. Meantime, our minority native-born kids are being locked up behind bars…while thousands of high-tech jobs go unfilled. Answer: let’s issue 65-thousand H-1B visas each year, get high-tech foreign adults (er, Americans) from India, Pakistan and other countries to come fill those jobs instead.

I don’t know what to do about the influx of kids across the border NOW, but I know if the House had passed Immigration Reform last July, we would NOT be having this crisis today!

GA cropsMr. President, take executive action NOW! Nothing you do, Mr. President will PLEASE the GOP, so WHY antagonize YOUR base? You deported and where did THAT get you? the title “Deporter-In-Chief” and NOT even the floor of the House for a vote!

Extend DACA to parents of Dreamers. Show Hispanics, Immigrant advocates your good faith – THEN, after the November elections, push more reforms. Forget about Boehner and his faux “lawsuits” there’s nothing about the “law” in his motivation.

He’s on his way out…and he knows it. And if he DOES cry his way back as House Speaker, he will remain a yo-yo between the handful of remaining main-stream Republicans (the rock) and the Tea Party (a hard place!). Stop deporting We need an Executive order to MAKE DACA PERMANENT – AND OFFER THE SAME PROTECTION TO THE PARENTS OF DREAMERS.

That will remove the stumbling block to wider Immigration Reform and let the process move on. YES OBAMA – YES WE CAN. SI, SE PUEDE, SE PUEDE, SE PUEDE! Ahora!

Reform Immigration Rally: Boston Strong!

March for Immigrant Respect and Immigration Reform.

reform6

IMG_5066 IMG_5069Video from a “March for Immigrant Respect and Immigration Reform” organized by The Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy coalition (MIRA).

Immigrants and immigrant advocates/supporters from across Massachusetts gathered at Boston’s historic Copley Square on Saturday, October 5, 2013…before marching to the equally historic Boston Common.

IMG_5083 IMG_5084

  • Public figures including candidates for Boston mayor and city council led the March. Marchers stopped at two Bank of America branches to deliver a letter demanding a public statement against anti-immigrant politics and in support of Immigration Reform…and publicly call on Bank of America to stop supporting Speaker Boehner with campaign contributions.

reform3

The Boston gathering was just ONE of about 200 similar actions organized in 154 cities in 40 states and the District of Columbia, on October 5, 2013…to raise a collective voice for immigrant dignity and respect. Marchers are getting support from 13 House Members, 1 Senator and 2 Governors.

Earlier this week, five U.S. House members introduced HR 5: Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act, a bill that contains bipartisan-backed provisions from the Senate immigration bill, as well as the border security bill passed unanimously by the House Committee on Homeland Security.

reform4

Immigrants and their allies are asking House Speaker John Boehner to let this bill move forward for the well being of immigrant families and the prosperity of our nation. The rally also called on the Massachusetts Congressional delegation to meet with Speaker Boehner and demand immigration reform NOW.

IMG_5059 IMG_5060

THE MESSAGE OF THE BOSTON RALLY:

  1. To demand an end to the deportation practices that have driven 11 million immigrants into the shadows
  2. Demand the House of Representatives pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship, which would give immigrants the full respect of the society to which they belong and strengthen the economy to which they contribute.
  3. Call for the passage of important state bills such as the Safe Driving Bill and the Trust Act, measures that would increase the safety of our roads and return real security to our communities.

reform5The march will be held at a crucial moment — the final days in which the U.S. House of Representatives can move forward with an immigration reform bill this year. After the U.S. Senate passed bipartisan immigration legislation (S.744) that includes a pathway to citizenship in June, progress was blocked by House Speaker John Boehner, who refused early this summer to bring any comprehensive bill to the floor of the House.

reforma16a

Now, after a summer of actions in which 26 members of Boehner’s Republican party have declared their support for reform, the combined force of labor, community, ethnic and faith organizations will call for Speaker Boehner to stop blocking the passage of comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship —a concept now supported by a bipartisan majority of representatives.

reform7

The rally calls on all members of the Massachusetts delegation to the House — all of them Democrats —  to raise their voices publicly for consideration of a comprehensive bill, one with a path to citizenship and without militarization of the border.

The rally will begin with a noon and march from Copley square past several branches of Bank of America, which supporters will publicly call to stop supporting Speaker Boehner with campaign contributions.

Romney’s 3 Different Campaign Strategies:

A story in New York Magazine entitled: Romney’s Etch A Sketch Campaign Begins caught my eye in the Huffington Post.

All Romney has to do is DRAW a position...and it's His...

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/04/romneys-etch-a-sketch-campaign-begins.html

Mitt Romney has apparently ALREADY started playing musical chairs with his many positions.

His latest “adjustment” seems to be on: Immigration and Student loans.

I say WATCH for Mitt Romney’s 3 DIFFERENT Campaign Strategies:

  1. FLIP: For during the early stages of the primaries where he’s facing other republican opponents. He’s more FOR everything his opponents stand for…and more AGAINST everything they oppose…or FOR some things they oppose and AGAINST some things they stand for.

    Romney

  2. FLOP:  To be exhibited during the late stages of the primaries where opponents have left or are thinking of leaving. He’s FOR the things he OPPOSED and OPPOSES the things he was FOR, before…
  3. MISSPOKES: For after the Primaries, when he’s the nominee. He’s no longer sure what he was FOR or AGAINST….

Hey, what do/did you expect…?

Watch Romney morph and evolve into his father or whatever he thinks YOU want him to be as he plays Harry Potter Politics.

Flick of wand: Wheee…watch me – I’m an Owl.

Flick, flick: Yeah, I’m a Vulture today!

Flick: And now I’m a Sparrow.

Harry Potter wielding his magic.

So what? They’re all birds, aren’t they?

Yes, Mr. Romney.  THEY are birds. But YOU’RE not!!!

Watch him tonight, during his speech in New Hampshire, start moving from Tea to Coffee…

By the end of the Campaign he’ll be drinking Camomille!

Silent Center Starts to ROAR! Amen!!!

It’s about time for this nation’s MAJORITY — the middle-of-the-road Americans who make up the “Silent Center”  — to wake up and roar. THANK GOD that you are beginning to…finally!

For too long you’ve chickened out, burying your head in the sand, while you let a handful of posturing kooks and haters set the agenda and shape the political debate.

So where have you been?

The majority of Americans are NOT racists. The majority of Americans are NOT haters. The majority of Americans are sensible, level-headed people who understand that compromise is NOT a dirty word. In short, the majority of Americans are realistic, LEVEL-headed people who have NO problems electing a black president…and would elect a green, blue or striped president, if they liked what he or SHE stood for.

But until the shoe started to pinch you, Silent Majority, YOU didn’t care, did you? You happily let the country go to hell, gave politicians carte blanch to engage in unnecessary wars, to desiccate Healthcare Reform with one hand — while accepting money from the Health Care Industry with the other hand.

YOU, the silent majority, allowed your kids/families to be burdened with crippling student debt and other bad consumer loans. You let Republicans defeat and stymie attempts to regulate business. You looked the other way because YOU were too busy engaged in a buying frenzy you couldn’t afford – rushing to buy another prop you did not need, or another piece of materialistic flotsam that was cobbled overseas.

Did you NOT understand that there would be a price…for not caring? Now you’re waking up…hi ho!

Here’s just one example where you turned the other cheek. IMMIGRATION REFORM. (I use Immigration as a mirror to reflect several other issues of key importance, like the Iraq war, where you turned a blind eye with negative consequences.)

Where were you in 2006/7 when you let a minority of extremists on the right, led by racism and political posturing instead of practicality and human decency, set the agenda over IMMIGRATION REFORM?

Where were YOU when Ted Kennedy and John McCain (he was a different McCain – a principled McCain, back then) and President George W. Bush came so close to passing The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, (110th U.S. Congress)? If you think ILLEGAL Immigration is bad, LEGAL immigration is even worse – it’s a nightmare!

The law would have overhauled America’s broken Immigration system, INCLUDING providing legal status/a path to citizenship (PATH – as in working your way towards a goal) for the approximately 14 to 20 million illegal immigrants currently residing in this country.

What is the convincing argument that you can come up with to keep millions of undocumented people in this country remaining IN THE SHADOWS? There were ONLY two options. Assimilate or Repatriate. Now, Republicans have added a third: Limbo! Not deporting, not assimilating – just hanging around!!!

Think of it. There are up to/or more than 20-thousand people living in this country without official documentation. Meaning, most are NOT in government databases. So authorities have NO idea WHO these people are, WHAT they are…or even WHERE they are. What a haven for terrorists!

Some of these people have been here for 10, 15, 20 years. They come from EVERY country in the world, EVERY race, including an estimated 20 thousand undocumented Irish. But Republicans focus ONLY on the Hispanics. Why? There are thousands of Chinese, thousands of Vietnamese, thousands of Africans, Cape Verdeans, Caribbean…Haitians, WHITE Europeans, Russians, Brazilians etc…

(Please note that as far as I am concerned, immigrants of any kind who rape, kill, pillage etc…should be deported immediately, without process. I am NOT asking for hardened criminal immigrants to remain here. My case is for honest, hard-working people who come here to WORK, who come seeking a better life or who are fleeing persecution and hunger, famine, disease.)

Do you really believe the reason the economy is bad and you can’t find a job is because of undocumented immigrants? OK, tell me.

How many Undocumented Immigrants killed President Obama’s 447-billion-dollar jobs bill in the Senate? (October 11, 2011)

How many undocumented immigrants are working at NASA? Or assembling train engines at General Electric (GE)? Are at Boeing building jet engines? At Bank of America creating bad mortgage policies? How many jobs did Undocumented Immigrants take at investment banks on Wall Street? At Goldman Sachs? And How many Undocumented Immigrants took home million-dollar bonuses while you lost your home…or voted to bomb Iraq?

How many towns are laying off teachers, doctors, nurses and closing fire stations because Undocumented Immigrants are taking their jobs? Don’t you understand that the jobs these immigrants take are generally the backbreaking, low paying jobs so necessary to an advanced economy that traditionally the better off natives NEVER WANT TO DO? Even welfare dependents will stay home instead of doing these jobs. (Don’t blame immigrants, blame your system, and the politicians who won’t fix it.)

The Wall Street Journal has a list of major companies that laid off workers in ONLY the FIRST quarter of 2009.

  • UNITED TECHNOLOGIES: 18-THOUSAND
  • GM: 10-THOUSAND
  • NISSAN: 20-THOUSAND
  • PANASONIC: 15-THOUSAND
  • NEC: 20-THOUSAND
  • CATERPILLER: 20 THOUSAND
  • HOME DEPOT: 7-THOUSAND
  • CIRCUIT CITY (Bankrupt): 34-THOUSAND
  • ALCOA: 15-THOUSAND.

I listed some of the bigger companies/biggest job cuts. But go check the list for yourself: http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2009/01/08/first-quarter-layoffs-selection-of-job-cuts-by-major-companies/

Is somebody trying to make YOU believe that UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS are “taking” your jobs? Did they take those jobs in the Journal list? Whom do we blame here?

For the fourth quarter of 2008, follow the Journal link or use this to check company lay-offs: http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2008/12/04/fourth-quarter-layoffs-selection-of-job-cuts-by-major-companies/

How many of you are willing to go to Georgia to dig onions? Why not? Like Republicans claim, Immigrants are taking your jobs. Now the jobs are available. Go do them!  $8 an hour, with little or no benefits. Backbreaking, filthy, baking in the sun all day. Waiting for you.

Lawmakers in Georgia, led by the state’s Republican governor, (naturally)  Nathan Deal, passed a law: House Bill 87 – the “Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011” intended to drive such individuals “back home.”

What happened? About a-third of the workforce fled Georgia (they didn’t leave America, they left Georgia), crippling Georgia’s largest economic sector: agriculture…by leaving millions of dollars in crops—blueberries, onions, melons and others—to sit rotting in the fields.

Farmers, who were not consulted about the law, (what do farmers know?) and left out of discussions when the law was being crafted…are pissed.

So, you’ll take the jobs if farmers pay more? Say from $8 to $12 per hour? Is 12-dollars an hour acceptable to you? Not YOU, per se…(you’re looking for at least $20 an hour and up) but maybe lesser educated people? OK. Throw in Health Care and other benefits, you argue — to attract American Workers.

Are these the same Health Care/Benefits packages that big companies are trying to get out of? The Post Office says benefits are crippling the service to bankruptcy!  (I’m NOT arguing FOR or AGAINST benefits. Just saying companies claim benefits raise costs, and they do.) Ford, Chrysler and GM had to renegotiate their benefits packages or go bust. Remember, YOU had to then bail them out? Are you willing to pay $5 for a head of lettuce? Why not? Just think of the number of American jobs you’ll be saving…

A factory here in Massachusetts, (employs an acquaintance of mine), shut down and moved operations to Mexico. The company is keeping an office with a skeleton staff in Massachusetts. Who took those jobs? Immigrants – over in Mexico. Since they didn’t actually COME here, and are not immigrants, we’ll call them “potential immigrants-in-waiting.” They didn’t NEED to come HERE because YOUR jobs went to them! Well, I guess that’s better than having them come here, right?

I’d prefer the factory to stay here and at least pay taxes and have the wages they pay be spent HERE and generate economic activity HERE, for shelter, movie passes, food, clothing, furniture – wouldn’t you? I assume Undocumented Immigrants pay rent and buy food and pay bus fare and their phone bills? Or does somebody do THAT for them?

Do you hear Republicans saying anything about these companies that they support, the ones they give tax breaks to, while these companies export jobs overseas? Of course NOT! Big business can send jobs overseas to foreign workers, long as (a) these foreign workers STAY OVER THERE and don’t take these same jobs here, IN America…and (b) as long as these businesses continue to donate to Republicans political coffers!

How many of you, the Silent Majority, believe that every one of these millions of undocumented people in the U.S. should be rounded up and deported?

How many of you believe that every one of these people CAN be bundled up and deported?

How many of you are willing to pay for it? To pay for hiring airplanes and personnel, pilots, law enforcement to accompany deportees, food and shelter to house deportees while they wait, and for the long appeals lawyers/individuals will mount in YOUR courts? Would you mind the government hiring more lawyers, judges, court clerks…while laying off teachers and police?

How many of you believe that the legions of kids born to these undocumented immigrants, who are U.S. citizens by law, should either remain here while their parents are deported – or should be deported with their parents? Or should the parents go – kids stay?

How many of you believe that undocumented students who have excelled in their studies at American schools (at taxpayer expense) should be denied access to university while American kids are failing? Do you blame Undocumented Immigrants for the numbers of American kids, who sit next to the immigrant kids, sharing the same lessons, teachers, facilities and opportunities, but still fail?

How do you expect these bright, intelligent immigrant kids to support themselves when they leave high school with straight A’s but cannot get a job, not even at McDonald’s, because they have no Social Security number? Are you willing to throw these promising kids under the bus – your future scientists, teachers and artists – while shouldering lifetime Welfare Benefits to failing American kids – just because they are American?

So, lets’ re-examine. What did Republicans achieve by killing Immigration Reform? Political gimmickry, pandering to the Right!

Did undocumented immigrants leave? NOPE. Still here, with de facto Amnesty.

Is the problem fixed – or did Republicans manage to sweep one more major issue under the carpet, again?

Do you expect people who braved hell to get here, crossed deserts, sailed rickety boats in shark-infested waters, paid smugglers, sold everything they possess for passage, to endure great hardship and persecution, even rape, along the way, to give up now, that they’ve gotten here? Do you really think that after getting a taste of America, people will return to foraging in garbage dumps for food? To return to drug wars and disease and starvation and political uncertainty and religious persecution and lack of opportunity? Would you?

Would you like a pregnant undocumented  immigrant woman to start labor pains, or get involved in an accident, or suffer a heart attack and go to a hospital and be refused treatment, and be sent away to die? Do you want the hospital to tell the pregnant woman, sorry, we can’t deliver your baby and let the woman and baby die in the parking lot? How would YOU feel if you woke up one morning and there were 20, 50 such cases around the nation?

Or would you proclaim, like the Republican Right/Tea Party crowd (yes, the ones who so zealously appear to believe in a merciful, just, compassionate, forgiving God, the ones who speak for Jesus), because they are very sure that Jesus would also say: “Too bad for you, unwanted immigrants. You should die, so you can get the message and go back to where ever it is that you came from. You are taking away from my plenty – go back to your nothing! Furthermore, I talked to Jesus this morning, and he agrees with me!”

Polls consistently show that a MAJORITY of Americans favor giving undocumented people who are already here, have been here for years, those who are hard-working, upstanding, willing to learn English where necessary, A PATHWAY TO LEGALITY.

So again I ask YOU, the Silent Majority, where were YOU when you let voices on the right prevail, and shallow, scared politicians ducked for cover, and let a MINORITY of right-wing Republicans crush efforts by tying reform to a secure border? Do you plan to build a fence on the Canadian border too?

Now states are passing piecemeal Immigration Laws WHICH THE WHITE HOUSE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THEN GO TO COURT OVER, WASTING THOUSANDS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS, because the Obama White House is AFRAID to take up a bill THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN INTRODUCED (HR 4321 – Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity (CIR ASAP) Act of 2009 by Representative Luis Gutierrez, Illinois Democrat in December, 2009)…because Republicans oppose it.

Most people thought President Obama had a wonderful opportunity to reform Immigration. But he squandered his political capital on a Healthcare Hash and now, instead of having the guts to force a vote, the White House is cowering because they’ve done the math/taken a poll, and apparently do not have enough votes to pass the bill!

Now we are governing by poll? By posturing? We are governing by fear?

Gone are the days when politicians with balls INTRODUCED a bill and DEBATED it and LET Congress VOTE. No, now handlers must first go behind the scenes and find out who is willing to vote for the bill, and tally how many votes they have, and if there are not enough votes, then capitulate and shelve/kill the legislation – EVEN IF IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

Oh Silent Majority, how much you are to blamed for…!!! And now, you protest…

Thanks God slavery is already abolished.

Imagine passing an anti-slavery vote Today. IT WOULD NEVER BE DONE. And thank God Rosa Parks did not go around asking for support BEFORE she sat down on that bus seat!

White House, take note. If the polls allow it…

McCain’s "Palling Around" with…

Obama.

Did you expect me to say “terrorists?” Sorry. We are way too elitist for that!

The republican senator and his former democratic rival for president met Monday (November 17/2008) to discuss “bipartisanship” at Obama’s transition headquarters in Chicago.

Obama’s incoming White House chief of staff, Illinois Representative Rahm Emanuel and South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a close McCain friend, helped arrange the meeting.

Politics indeed makes for some strange bedfellows! I think I have all the makings of being a great politician. Except for one thing: The Love Your Enemies and forget their crap part!

Chris Wallace (Fox News) interviewed Lindsey Graham after the first presidential debate (held September 26) at The University of Mississippi.

During the debate, Obama challenged McCain’s tax proposals, arguing that McCain would give a tax cut of 300-billion-dollars in tax cuts to some of the wealthiest corporations and individuals in the U.S. and for the first time in history, would tax health benefits.

Graham said Obama was playing the “Class Warfare” game.

And when Obama called McCain by his first name during the debate? Graham said Obama was trying to suggest that he, Obama, was equal to McCain. Gasp!

A clip of the Graham interview (as seen in this YouTube video) appears below. In it Graham says McCain should have told Obama:

Senator Obama, you don’t understand, you’re not just naive, my friend, you’re dangerous. Senator Obama, you’re not ready to be President.

Check it out:

So here we have Obama, Emanuel, McCain and Graham sitting together and pledging to work together. Now how many antacids did Mr. Graham have to take before he could bring himself to cross to the naive side of town to sit with the new president-elect, who is/was? not his/their? equal…and also dangerous and unprepared?

Obama and McCain will hopefully be working together to address a number of issues that they held similar views on during the campaign: Guantanamo Bay, climate change, immigration, corporate welfare and energy independence.

 Now to another politician, with a leading role in the “I was Blind, But now I See” makeover. Enter Joe Lieberman: Stage Left.

Democrats wanted his head, but his carotid artery remains firmly attached, for now. Lieberman apparently drove himself to the political guillotine and willing lay down, face up! Thanks to Obama, The Connecticut republican, I mean “Independent” gets to keep his powerful slot as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and lives to campaign for Sarah Palin in 2012!

Lieberman now says: “Some of the statements, some of the things that people have said I said about Senator Obama, are simply not true. There are other statements that I made that I wish I had made more clearly, and there are some that I made that I wish I had not made at all. And obviously in the heat of campaigns, that happens to all of us, but I regret that and now it’s time to move on.” O-K.

Hey, that’s politics! As usual…

I just find it ironic that during the campaign, Lieberman, during one of his many attacks on Obama, said:

I believe he’s naïve to think that people like Iran’s president will somehow become America’s friends by talking to them — a warm embrace and a cup of tea. It’s not going to work that way.

As Palin would say: Well darn it, Senator Lieberman, Obama just used that same tactic on you.

CHECK and MATE!
