Shock and awww!

Seems to me the White House is imploding — in an upsetting, but riveting way that many expected…but most hoped would not happen!

What is my take away?

When it comes to the presidency: experience, experience, experience. The Swamp is beginning to look like a rather acceptable habitat! Of course I was not one of those asking for “no experience” because I certainly prefer (good) experience in my professionals.

experience

Would I choose a doctor with NO experience who has no-one with experience helping him diagnose? Nope. Would you?

Choose a lawyer with no experience to get me out of a murder rap? Nope. Given a choice, I want someone who has already been there, done that. Bring Johnny Cochrane back from the dead and I’ll take him over a living attorney!

Choose the pilot who just graduated to take me through a water landing? Don’t think so. I want Captain Sully…(Chesley Sullenberger who made an emergency landing on New York’s Hudson River/2009).

captain-sully

Yes, inexperienced people are capable of doing a great job, maybe even better than the old hands (who were once inexperienced themselves)…but it’s iffy. We still want to choose the experienced professionals…because they’re gone through the fire. Been tested. Good governor…OK, maybe you’ll be a good president too. Good senator, congresswoman, mayor…OK. let’s try you.

But choosing a President? Nah, we don’t need political experience. O-kaaay…!

Just because you’re a good businessman — that does not a good president make, especially when your business is run by your family with no public scrutiny…and no other people to answer to, when you and your family make all the decisions with no outside persons saying: Now wait just a minute!

(By the way, I don’t believe Donald Trump was the person who was really running the Trump empire. I think it may be his daughter Ivanka and the two sons running the companies…and Trump is just the figurehead brand. Of course I may be wrong, but I believe when he tried to run the company, he bankrupted it, ran it into the ground.)

the-wiz

Where is the seasoned businessman, with the savvy, the corporate know-how and Midas touch? Are we looking at a Wizard of Oz scenario?

We gas tank almost empty,  No electricity, we oil pressure reading low
Shall we abandon ship, Or shall we stay on it and perish slow
We don’t know, we don’t know, Captain you tell we what to do

I also think the reason some lawmakers are so opposed to Trump may be because they get intelligence briefings and know things we don’t know – things they cannot tell the public.

What are foreign leaders thinking. Read between the lines. Here’s what some have told Mr. Trump or his Vice President:

Canada’s Justin Trudeau:

trudeau-trump

Any day I get to visit our southern neighbors is a good day in my book…

Of course.

And any day Trudeau’s counterpart, the American President, gets to visit HIS southern neighbor, Mexico? Oh wait – didn’t happen…because we challenged them and they pushed back – and now Mexicans are demonstrating in the streets against America and putting up resistance.

Trudeau: History has demonstrated time and again that in order to tackle our most pressing issues, both foreign and domestic, we must work with our closest allies, learn from each other, and stand in solidarity as a united voice.

With a level of economic and social integration that is unmatched on the world stage, Canada and the United States will forever be a model example of how to be good neighbors.  Winston Churchill once said, “That long Canadian frontier from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans, guarded only by neighborly respect and honorable obligations, is an example to every country, and a pattern for the future of the world.”

The U.S and Mexico, on the other hand, will forever be what kind of model? Will the U.S.’s equally long frontier with Mexico be: guarded only by neighborly respect and honorable obligations…(as) an example to every country, and a pattern for the future of the world. Guess we’ll see!

Germany’s Angela Merkel (on free press) with Vice President Mike Pence in the audience:

“I stand by a free and independent press and have great respect for journalists … We’ve always done well in Germany when we mutually respect each other.

…If there are differences of opinion, then we discuss it, but we accept press freedom as a great pillar of democracy.”

Britain’s Theresa May:

“When it comes to Russia, as so often it is wise to turn to the example of President Reagan who, during his negotiations with his opposite number Mikhail Gorbachev, used to abide by the adage trust but verify. With President Putin, my advice is to: engage but beware.”

Mayday! Mayday! We hear all of you. Is president Trump listening, though?

Captain, This Ship Is Sinking…

This is a satirical calypso about the twin island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, in the English Caribbean. It references the political changeover to relative newcomer, George Chambers…after the death of long-time Prime Minister Eric Williams, who died in 1981.

But the song could be describing the Trump White House! Michael Flynn! Andrew Puzder! Leaks! Intelligence investigations! Who knew what, when, where, why, how? Calypso is just awesome. This type of musical genre from the Caribbean, often utilizes rich political commentary through irony and satire. Go down for Carnival in February. Best after Rio – some may say better!

From Wiki: Calypso is a style of Afro-Caribbean music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago during the early to mid-20th century and spread to the rest of Caribbean Antilles and Venezuela. Its rhythms can be traced back to West Africa and the arrival of French planters and their slaves in the 18th century.

Location: seven miles off the coast of Venezuela
SOS! SOS! Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!
Help! Help!

The Trinidad — a luxury liner
Sailing the Caribbean Sea
With an old captain named Eric Williams
For years sailed smooth and free
But sadly, Eric Williams passed away
The ship hit rough water that day
Someone turned the bridge over
To a captain named Chambers
Meh blood crawl, things start to fall
Hold meh head when a sailor bawl

Chorus
Captain this ship is sinking
Captain these seas are rough, oh yes
We gas tank almost empty
No electricity, we oil pressure reading low
Shall we abandon ship
Or shall we stay on it and perish slow
We doh know, we doh know
Captain you tell we what to do

The Trinidad, oh she was a beauty
With wealth that few surpass
And in her day she sailed majestically
There were few in her class
Faithfully she fulfilled her sailors need
Some were overpowered by greed
And so they pilfered slow
Some took by bulk and go
Now she look dull, she’s at a lull
She could barely sit on her hull

sinking-ship

Captain this ship is sinking
Captain these seas are rough, oh yes
We gas tank almost empty
No electricity, we oil pressure reading low
Shall we abandon ship
Or shall we stay on it and perish slow
We doh know, we doh know
Captain you tell we what to do

The Trinidad, in her day of sailing
She was a friend to one and all
She never once ever hesitated
To answer all SOS calls
And yes, well she always did her best
To help out those in distress
Now it’s so sad to see
She’s in difficulties
Though she help jeer
Some ah dem cheer
And sarcastically declare

trinidad

Captain this ship is sinking
Captain these seas are rough
We gas tank almost empty
No electricity, we oil pressure reading low
Shall we abandon ship
Or shall we sit on it and perish slow
We doh know, we doh know
Captain you tell we what to do

Now there is a lot of fingers pointing
Suspicion running strong
Who’s to be blamed for all her failures
Who’s to be blamed for doing her wrong
Now please remember I’m warning you
For thirty years, she had the same crew
Who hold the keys to her vault
So we know who is at fault
Now it’s up to you, it’s up to me
To make her worthy to go back to sea

Camp David

Camp David

I wonder why President Trump is using his Mar a Lago club/resort in Florida to host foreign leaders…instead of Camp David, with its decades of built-in SECURITY?

campdavid

According to the White House website:

Camp David, known formally as the Naval Support Facility Thurmont, is the President’s country residence. Located in Catoctin Mountain Park in Frederick County, Maryland, Camp David has offered Presidents an opportunity for solitude and tranquility, as well as an ideal place to host foreign leaders.

First Lady…

Am I the only person who thinks that Melania Trump is unhappy or highly annoyed or miffed about something…and/or someone? And that one of those somethings or someones may be her step-daughter, Ivanka?

I got that feeling the night of the Inaugural Balls…and it has refused to go away!

The body language, the stoic lack of expression and the glances look off to me…and since then, I’ve been getting more “questionable” vibes whenever I see the First Couple together. Mr Trump’s longest marriage to (Ivana) lasted about 15 years and Melania is now at year 12?

Just thought I’d throw that out, because I failed to call his win and I thought he would win!

melania-trump

Trumps at Inaugural ball

Hopefully, President Trump will not become the first sitting president (that I can recall, in recent times) to be served with a divorce order while in office!

I like you, Mrs. Trump. If you did not sign up for the intensive media and public scrutiny, if you don’t like having Ivanka play the role of half-First-Lady, if you’re pissed about revelations about his alleged womanizing and his alleged shenanigans in Moscow and his alleged groping…if you don’t like the way he keeps throwing you into the spotlight to “say something” out of the blue…

If you’re not as nostalgic towards Mr. Putin as your husband seems to be, since your former, former country (Yugoslavia) split from the Soviets in 1948, seems to me …should you decide to cut your losses…my advice would be to:

…go for the Penthouse, Melania…your husband now has some brand new alternative digs on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Come now, I’m thinking of the hotel!

On the other hand, maybe Melania just does not like living life in a glass bowl! I would NOT want people scrutinizing my clothes, my hair, my words, my actions, etc…and maybe she IS glad her step-daughter is doubling up as First Daughter and First Lady!

Transcript of text messages with left-winger who went to Washington D.C. to “protest” Trump’s inauguration…

ME (Boston): (Stirring the pot) – Happy Inauguration Day!text

HE: Worst day in US history. Here in D.C. with appropriate banner. See you tomorrow at Women’s March in Boston! Trying hard not to throw up

ME: Nope. Not marching against Trump. Wish him well and cutting him some slack until he screws up. Don’t share those sentiments. Dems sore losers

HE:  Already has screwed up. BTW on Monday he is proposing 10 trillion in budget cuts over next decade, twice Ryan budget cuts. I’m not a sore loser, don’t get mad, get even! I don’t wish him well…

ME: Childish tantrum! Boo hoo!

HE: Adult patriotism. Why do you identify with this jerk?

ME: Because I like some of what he stands for, and I hope he can turn some things around and because I don’t believe government is the answer … and because I don’t allow others to think for me – right or wrong!!! I’m surrounded by jerks! What’s one more?

trump-protests-inaug

…I was playing with his head a bit – pulling his strings. But I DO support the demonstrations (I don’t call them protests)…happening today (1/21/2017) in Boston, in the nation’s Capitol, in other U.S. cities and worldwide. I strongly support people marching peacefully (and in justified cases like the Civil Rights marches, more forcefully) to push for their rights…with respect and civility and a point/message.

What I DON’T support are those anarchists who took to the streets of Washington D.C on Inauguration Day, attacking police, burning cars and trashing people’s property. I don’t support tactics that instead of advancing a cause, push it backward.

But YES, I’m pleased to see the HUGE turnout for the Women’s March the day after Trump’s inauguration. But it’s not enough to just put on a pink hat, walk around a couple blocks with a placard then go home and on election day tell yourself:

  • Well, I’m just too tired to go and vote
  • There will be a large turnout so if I don’t vote, it does not matter
  • My vote doesn’t count
  • I don’t like the candidate
  • I’ll have time, I’ll go later…I’ll go tomorrow, I’ll go next week!

Women’s March – Washington DC

Then, when a million other people don’t vote, because every single ONE of these people was thinking the VERY same things above, like you who did not vote for Clinton…all depending on someone else to carry the burden for you OR leaving that voting booth feeling sanctimonious for taking a political high road…we then turn out and “protest”! Yet when you had the opportunity to PREVENT all this, YOU DIDN’T.

This table I did above (hope my math is sound) shows what would have happened IF people had voted for Clinton instead of Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. Did these voters really believe that Gary Johnson (aka Mr. Aleppo, in my mind) and Jill Stein (remember “Jill not Hill”?) were better candidates than Hillary Clinton? Did they really believe that Jill Stein would win! Are you OUT of your minds? Now you’re protesting. So not impressed!!!

womens-march-australia

Women’s March – Australia/New Zealand

In my table alone, about A-MILLION people voted for Stein and Johnson. So let this BE a learning election. EVERY VOTE COUNTS and a “protest” vote is a vote FOR the opposition. The ONLY republican “protest” was in Utah where 207-thousand people voted for another republican, Mormon Evan McMullin, instead of Trump.

So hopefully, those people now in the streets who DID NOT vote, or voted Stein or Johnson or blank — WILL vote STRATEGICALLY in future elections and leave their petulant hurt feelings at home in November 2018 and beyond. Because when you SULK and DON’T VOTE for the Party candidate you did not want…you end up with a President and ruling party you also don’t want! (Although, Trump could do so well that everyone will vote for him! Who knows.)

And remember — NOT voting also means that your party loses:

  • Governors
  • Senators
  • Representatives
  • Other officials

Local results affect our lives in areas closer to home. Trump wasn’t the candidate the GOP establishment wanted. He wasn’t the candidate rank and file republicans wanted. But they rallied around him…while we were asking: “How can they embrace Trump with all the revelations about his treatment of women (alleged), his refusal to release his taxes, the things he said”, etc.

How? Because OF THE SUPREME COURT! They were smarter! FUTURISTIC!

While Democrats were nursing their fragile, HURT feelings, Republicans held their nose and voted FOR Trump, because they were looking ahead and Democrats and other Liberals were IN THE MOMENT, undergoing therapy. GROW UP! No wonder Republicans think we are sissies! We probably are, too!

Laters! vote

2016 Presidential Medal of Freedom

Have you checked the nominees for this year’s (2016) Presidential Medal of Freedom? It certainly helped ME understand in part why Democrats lost the election to Donald Trump. “Out of Touch!”

About a-third of the recipients are linked to Hollywood/the entertainment arena.

Are they contributors who need to be rewarded? I say NO! Just me, since most people seem to have no objections. But I do!

These entertainers have FAME and money. Now we’re giving them a medal too? For what? It we think they need a trophy…how about an Oscar or a Cy Young or whatever award their industry gives out…and award the Presidential Medals to people who actually CONTRIBUTE to society AS A WHOLE, in a MEANINGFUL way that changes lives for the better?

Yes we go to a movie, watch a show, dance at a concert etc, to “unwind”.  Fun is good. But compare that to the doctors who beg for medicines and contributions to bring healthcare to rural poor — or the struggling single mom who steps up and gives her kid an extra bagged lunch for that other kid who does not have any lunch, then collects funds to PAY for school lunches for those who can’t afford it?

THOSE are my kinds of people.

Yes, “celebrities” are fine. I even like some of them but apart from those who embrace causes (like Bono), I don’t see a “celebrity” as being uber important just because the person makes millions from acting or singing or playing a sport…

Are there NO police, no teachers, no firemen who worked without sleep for 2 days or more to battle a stubborn wildfire; no “regular” person worthy of commendation? Or is it that the criteria for that Medal does not fit the category of person I’m referring to? I don’t know…

I prefer to champion hard-working men and women who go about their lives helping others everyday. These dedicated citizens don’t travel in limos or wear thousand-dollar shoes or eat at fancy restaurants or live in million-dollar homes. But they brave attitude, ingratitude, bodily harm and economic loss daily to serve the greater good…without fame or million-dollar payouts and DON’T EXPECT fame or millions for what they do!

What about those who VOLUNTEER to read to kids, visit the elderly, take pride in doing their jobs well, even leave their jobs/families to help after disasters? Yes, some celebrities do that too (without a court mandating they do community service).

But how about Medals of Freedom for overworked social workers who troll the streets looking for drug overdoses and the homeless in winter? Teachers who use their own money to buy art supplies or turn under-performing schools around? Professionals who organize homework help or tutor disadvantaged kids or start youth leagues? Medics who rush to disasters? Cops who do karaoke sing-alongs in their car to foster better community relations? Volunteers who organize for our troops? Kids who do great things?

Have we forgotten these people? No wonder election 2016 “these people” developed their own case of amnesia! Puh-leese!

I would give the Presidential medal of Freedom to more worthy recipients than the following people:

  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – the National Basketball Association’s all-time leading scorer. So what?
  • Ellen DeGeneres – comedian. So what?
  • Robert De Niro – actor. So what?
  • Tom Hanks – actor. So what?
  • Michael Jordan – actor/film-maker. So what?
  • Lorne Michaels – producer and screenwriter, best known for creating and producingSaturday Night Live. Ha Ha!
  • Diana Ross – entertainer. And what else?
  • Vin Scully – broadcaster who, for 67 seasons, was the voice of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. So what?
  • Bruce Springsteen – singer, songwriter, and bandleader. So what?
  • Cicely Tyson – entertainer. So what?

EXCEPTION: Robert Redford – YES! I would honor HIM. NOT because he is a famous actor but because HE founded the Sundance Institute. Sundance advances the work of independent filmmakers and storytellers throughout the world, including through the annual Sundance Film Festival.

Sundance gives voice to film-makers who would not otherwise get heard or seen. Redford DID something with his fame and money, something to BENEFIT others on a large scale.

My criteria when deciding who gets the Presidential Medal of Freedom would be: What did you do over your lifetime/career to benefit others – NOT whether you’re famous for singing, acting or playing ball! But what did you do with that fame, that opportunity, that platform – to benefit others? In other words: “What have you done for US (U.S?) lately?”

But then, maybe their contributions are political? As in donations? How would I, you, we know?

Because famous only? SO WHAT?! When a “star” wins an Oscar or makes 10-million for a film, a new Ferrari may go into production, but that payout does not help fill a poor child’s stomach in the inner city or pay the mortgage for some family facing foreclosure in the heartland.  There are people fighting these issues every day, at great personal cost. How about a MEDAL for them? Them who have no-one and nothing but grit and perseverance and determination…?

Is this the Presidential Medal of Famedom? If so, I see several in Kim Kardashian’s future!
